Seeing if I can buy a couple off of eBay. I have one unopened and one opened. Have to switch out the rest of my brake lines to steel so I'll definitely need it.

The gold one has the same specs I believe as blue. Just the color. Maybe they can just convert blue to clear. I liked the blue because I can tell when the old fluid is purged.

Apparently if it isn't clear or amber you can't see impurities and water in the system necessitating that it be no other color that could "mask" these problems and prevent brake system failure.

None at all, I just wasn't thinking. Getting it out of Canada would be even better.

Bingo, thought crossed my mind also. Got plenty in stock at the moment but will need to replenish in the future.

F***ing Feds
Roger,

Not what I expect from a fellow Brit who is used to endless queuing in an orderly fashion!

It should be obvious there is a real danger that we are going to confuse it with that blue stuff they use to flush aircraft crappers! Maybe that stuff works as hydraulic fluid- maybe it is ATE blue and they just do not want us to know the truth. Then there are those things you stick in the "Can" to make the water blue - seems you can only "blue in the loo" not to mention "Blue movies"- I guess they are now under threat as well.

Switching between ATE Blue and ATE Golden to differentiate when you have completed the flush must surely be a very dangerous thing to do [sic].

Now I hear that beetroot is being banned because it turns your poo red!

Oh- and someone tell Worth to drink more water- he's dehydrated!

Got to run..... the boys are after me for being left handed!

Regards

Fred

I believe the gist is that gold fluid turns brown when it absorbs water so a mechanic can tell it needs replacing just by the color.

I ordered two more cans off Amazon yesterday and my order shows shipped with a tracking number. Should be here tomorrow. YMMV, seller only has a couple left:

Amazon.com: ATE 706202 Original TYP 200 DOT 4 Brake Fluid - 1 Liter: Automotive Amazon.com: ATE 706202 Original TYP 200 DOT 4 Brake Fluid - 1 Liter: Automotive

Exactly, what color does blue turn when contaminated? Probably a darker shade or brown blue... not as distinct as gold to brown and hence why the Feds don't like blue.

super blue banned?
I didn't even know he was a member here.

Seriously, waiting for a color change as an indication of when to change brake fluid may not be the best policy.
Just bleed & flush the brakes (and clutch if you've got one) every couple of years.
