Hey Andy, thanks for asking.
Done a few things but not finished, it will never be done, done LOL.
The RS is running great though,
how's your Porsche and sunny Cal?

But since you asked..
Today was day 4 of testing my crankcase breather/oil separator.
Ran the **** out of it and did 2 long highway runs for supplies for work.

I haven't put any oil in the separator that i can tell.
Not getting the stink i thought either.
No mess under the hood.
This crank breather is for off road use only once testing is complete.
this video is just a few moments after getting home today.

It's great and soon to be joined by an ML350 in the garage for the baby. It's dry out here yet again. Oh well.

That is good news on the separator! I can't see the video on my computer here (work). I will have to have a glance when I get home.

That's not an Italian tune-up... that's a German reach-around.

LOL Jim, i set myself up for that one. But why the winking smilie?

Andy,

To answer your question whether i have finished..

The interior isn't done and i have exhaust and suspension work to get to.
('85-'86 ex manifolds, Koni adjustables & S4 front springs and sway bush)
The manual steering is great. I would never re-install the power assist.

I installed the old carpet to use as a template for the new stuff i am ordering, i will pin up material to the old to make a
pattern for cutting the new stuff.
The interior will be mostly new factory type Sliverknit carpet but with ribbed rubber floor mats up front. Steering wheel and seats still to buy.
This will lower the weight some more. I also want to look at the adjustable steering wheel mechanism for simplification as i never adjust it.
This could shed a few pounds. I have a lot of little details to do inside.
Outside;
Lexan quarter windows still to do as well. I want to try an heat form them and use the o.e. gaskets
I don't want any machine screws..Trying to pull it back from looking like a track car which was
an important thing in the beginning for me. Not done but the good thing is i like driving it a lot.
I may quiet up the exhaust just a little too.

The original door panels will be modified slightly and re installed (sans the heavy armrest /lower storage) and finished with more carpet in this area.
I want the door panels to look like something Porsche may have done. For this reason i may buy a new or nice used dash and pod as Porsche wouldn't have done what i did for a road going RS model. I also need to finish the lower trimmed center consul among other details.

Today I finally cleaned the motor again after painting.

The car runs very well.

Hoping to drive it down to SITM this year.

Congratulations on the new Baby.
-Matt

Nice list of to-do's.

(I use wink-smile when I joke or write something silly)

I know Jim, I was trying to joke too, didn't work.

It's tough here, w/out the ability or use of voice or facial expression.

Do you have any nice dashes or pods at the moment?

Hey drnick,
For me, It has a MUCH better feel when shifting than the original did.
I like it better for sure which surprised me.

No start, just after cleaning the motor yesterday..let things
dry out overnight but there is no fuel pump noise in the 'on' position.
fuse ok and relay seems fine,
need to check for power at the pump..
my guess is $250 will be saying

try reversing the polarity at the pump if the pump is jammed.....sometimes it will spit out the bit that it got stuck ...

Well as I already pointed out on that 'other forum' this isn't an air oil separator at all - its just a filter.

Are you sure you don't have other breathers still connected to the intake?

Thanks Jim that is a good idea, never thought of that.

But i have no current at the pump connections, which would be a good thing ($) if i can figure out why.

In the 'ON' position the pump relay clicks and seems to be doing what a relay is supposed to do. The magnet is working and makes the connection.
I took off the relay cover, it looks very good inside. I watched it click with the cover off and made sure the connection was being made.

But jumping terminals 87 and 30 does not run the pump or bring current to the pump.

Multimeter connected between 87 and 30..no current at all.

All i did was roll the car back and wash the cold motor the other morning.

Serves me right for saying how great it was running, jinxed myself.

Alan,
This car never used oil like my '86 911 did. The level never noticeably changed btwn oil changes.
the 911 used 1 quart every 500-700 miles iirc. Porsche said this was ok (manual)
But back to this superior 928, there is no other breather (dipstick good and tight)
and there is no oil whatsoever collecting in the Moroso filter/separator as of yet.
75 plus miles and looks as clean as when installed. Ran it petty hard too.
The plenum was always stained near the filter, won't seem to come off with any cleaners.
Anomaly for a 928? Can i keep it? It looks so cool

Sorry bubbah. Good vinyl ones are rare as hens teeth.

Shipped in a brown vinyl one from Germany. Hadn't seen one before, haven't seen one since.
