Also "Old Body", but whatever- I don't want to touch off another frenzied O/B terminology debate thread....
Trevails perpetrated by prior owners, I don't think that is out of line at all for straight talk in a restoration article.
Maybe the author can garner some quotes from the engineers on their thinking behind the aluminum balljoint carriers...or the trans synchros..

Nice work Pablo. I enjoyed the read very much. Mine did start off a bit rougher than yours, and am still doing little things all the time, but hey I didn't expect it do be done over night. I think she has turned out pretty well so far. I will say it's not nearly as nice as Deans', (I wish) but it's a whole lot better than it was. I would have documented what I have done along the way, but I hate to write. I am in no way a Dwyane in that area.

In my opinion the adventure of what Pablo is about to do ( restore the only Porsche that was designed from a clean sheet of paper) will be more gratifying than just throwing money at another 911.
I am not a "Porsche Guy" I like the mark and I have owned a '51 356/ '71 911 and a 73 911.I have also owned other various marks. By far the 928 is a better car than a 911 in many ways. Just because Ferry Porsche was not a huge fan of it and all the research and funding went into 911's does not make the 928 a lesser piece.
My OB has been commuting to and from LA from the Bay Area 4 times in the past 6 weeks. I bought my car sight unseen on eBay 3 years ago. Since then I have put 22m miles on it.
I have forced myself to do all the work myself (well along with the help of a few others
ie: Bill Ball and have had the fun of cracking 210mph with George. I can't see a 22 old 911 doing 210mph without major major mods. George's 90 S4 is not all that far from stock.
The GT3's did not get near us in Nevada.
OB's maybe frustrating to work on at times but it's all doable and Pablo is all so correct when he says that there just are not many left.
Good luck Pablo, I think we are all hear to help
As Paul Newman said. "The best sound in the world is the sound of a V8"

I wrote this article. My apologies to you RKD in OKC if it seemed unflattering, but that's not the case. On the contrary, I'm flattering this car. Sure, I may have chosen a car that some may have thought wasn't worthy of such attention, but I saw it differently.
I've searched for quite some time before taking the plunge with this old girl and I think she deserves a shot. Crazy? Maybe, but I think we're all a bit of that to some degree. It'll be time consuming and expensive but what passionate endeavour wouldn't be?
I've fallen hard for these early OBs and I think any exposure we give them in the public eye through writing, gatherings, or whatever will be a benefit to us all in many ways. You seldom see articles about 928s in contemporary Porsche publications and I'd like to start changing that. So here's my contribution...

The passion that everyone on this forum has is exactly why I began this endeavour.
Roger, you played a very pivotal role in this as well. You may not remember me, but when I began looking for 928s you mentioned what great cars they were and then I asked which forum I should join to learn more about them...you said Rennlist before I even finished the sentence. My apologies if it came off negative, but new and potential owners need to see the reality of the thing lest we see more unsalvageable 928s in the weeds or the headed to the crusher. I think that any Porsche enthusiast willing to take a chance will appreciate the candor...this baby is not for the amateur.
SMTCapeCod, I've got one better for you. My friend James is an old school Porsche Master Technician who really knows his business. He had 4 engineers from Porsche inspect his work on a rebuild while they spun the main shaft and shifted the gears on the bench for the pre-Borg-Warner synchro 'boxes he was rebuilding at the time back in the early 80's. Not only were they impressed, they give him a certificate to be the only tech authorized in the dealer to rebuild these gearboxes...I'll tell you his secret for his fix on the synchros in another article.
Michael and Bonton, your support is very appreciated and take your advice to heart.
Vanster...I cannot agree with you more. 911s are a different experience and I've yet to explore the potential of a well sorted 928 but when glossies keep publishing articles about yet another outlaw, pre-73, RS/ST tribute 911 month after month it makes me not only yawn but also realize how myopic editors can be. 928s, barely get a crumb from this feast and it's shameful. Here's a car that won "Best Car of the Year" award (the only one for Porsche at the time), was a "clean sheet" project with design and engineering that is fresh to this day and yet nary a mention of someone who has gone through the trouble of restoring a very important piece of Porsche's history. Porscheforus and PCA's E-Brake news graciously allowed me to write about 928s and it's a start...next stop, the glossies.

Welcome to the pool, Pablo. You're in the right place. please keep posting updates.
I think OB was originally "Old Bugger" and I'm sure it's originator used it to refer to Pre-S cars with CIS injection. Anyway, you've got one.

g8rb8, Will and Martin, thank you both for your support and encouragement. I like "Old Bastard" the best...but I didn't see that in this forum.
I'll keep everyone here posted on the next article in the series.

Hear, Hear Pablo. I loved he write up and love your passion. I agree the more positive expressions of passion and love for these cars that we can get into the public forum the more appreciated (in all respects) they are likely to become. These are great cars built by passionate people and deserving of passionate owners who see beyond the cost and failings.
Cheers

Just read through this thread and really enjoyed the article, good work Pablo and welcome to the 928 group!
I'm also a bit tired of articles on another 911 makeover to a clone of an ST/RS/RSR or "R Gruppe" car. Respect them highly, but they are now very over played in the magazines as you have said.
Have fun in your journey and keep us posted on your exploits with your OB.
Cheers,
