I gotta say, having lived in NY, PA, MI, and TX, there's a reason we put up with all this hassle in CA: It's really nice here.

I think I am going to have to figure out what to do once I request a custom pipe from Greg in about a year from now.
(Wants an custom exhaust pipe with a muffler and Catalytic Converter that is built more on the lines of efficiency, smoothness and quietness)

Bill- I have been able to really lower the NOX on
an old Lincoln by removing the egr valve & cleaning it and the passages that were coked up. Some Hondas had manifolds that would also coke up resulting in very high nox- the fix was either a new manifold or drill, clean & plug the drilled holes, so it looks like open passages on the egr circuit are important. Might be worth looking at.
Are they sending you to a "star" test station or?
I've had the best luck with the cheapest stations-
they don't seem to take very much time looking things over. Good Luck!
Might be some ideas here-

No EGR valve on our cars.
I do go to a"cheap" place ($25). They don't so much checking. Plus, I've been a "regular" there lately, so they just pull me in and run the tailpipe test. Also, I'm pretty confident their machines are OK. I had a buddy's car that flunked NOX at a much more expensive station. I changed the O2 sensor and it passed easily at the "cheap" place. Already changed my O2 sensor with no improvement.

Yes, California, especially my part of it, is hard to beat. So, I accept the hassles with smogging.
OK, I swapped in a lower mileage set of cats. Off I go for another try. Report to follow.

I know it will be po-poed but you fellows in cali might just get someone in another state to go to a pick and pull and get you a or 2 cats off a car and have them send them to you, if someone could find one or two.
