Yes, but that being said, a set of used factory cats from another 928S4 would pass the visual check on Bill's car. The smog station would never know they are not original. Hopefully they function well enough to pass!

Bill as you well know the "republic of kalifornia" is insane about smog.....I would ONLY go with a stock cat..... I am bummer I don't have one for you....the only one I have is from an 84 and won't work....I would try Rich's known good cat 1st....I think that will be the best....

FWIW, I have a pair of the Magnaflow 36304's on my stroker, passed smog without incident last May. No air tube, though the diverter valve is in place.

Just for the sake of having a spare someday, I bought a used cat off a Texas GTS back in March for $250. Not sure how many miles are/were on it, but it's in beautiful shape. No one from CARB has appeared at my door to confiscate it yet.....

If I were a CA 928 owner, knew my engine was in proper tune and was slowly edging towards failing smog, I'd be looking for a spare factory cat for that rainy day. Hell, the recycling/scrap value is probably close to $200, judging from lists I'm seeing on sites like converterguys.com.

Also for the early cars Mark Anderson bought a huge bunch of NEW original Porsche cats and is practically giving them away ....new, new !!! Saw one over at Greg Brown's that he was putting on an early 16 valve. These are the single cats for 78-84 so 714-632-9288 if you wish to be smog legal and "green" or simply original and stock.

"Maybe you guys can help me figure a way out of this mess..."

Bill, good luck with this insanity.

Got a room here in Indiana if you ever want to bail.

Thanks Mark, I meant the online "catalog". 1981 is the oldest I see, searching for "catalytic".
