One positive thing that always seems to go hand in hand with engines that perform well....the "throttle response" is amazing.....way beyond anything I've experienced, in the 928 world. The engine goes from idle to 4,000 rpms with just a tiny 'blip" of the throttle. I tired a full throttle "blip", yesterday (on the unturned engine....just for grins) and the engine instantly bounced off the rev limiter.

Won't be doing that again.

HP? C'mon its really ALL ABOUT TORQUE!

;-) j/k......

What cost style points though- by Mark's rationale the SBC stroker is still seeming like the value leader.

Very much looking forward to the PMW website...but in the mean time sure do enjoy the posts from the folks that can take a run at the top rung for making their car how they want. I noted a write up on a Karmann-boxster in this months Pano, this car should would be another nice feature to demonstrate enginuity ;-) and forethought. I think one key engineering question remains- what is the duty cycle at which Greg's " key runs into coil bind or breakage?

Not the stock flywheel, we're running Greg's carbon-carbon clutch/flywheel combo.

Be wary of how much people want to believe the stock intake "works just fine".

The tuning will be the most important. Imagine what an aftermarket ECU could do with that combo.

What does "dp" mean (in this context) and how did the first dyno runs turn out?

Yep, double post, from my cell phone, fat-fingered it.

Spent yesterday with Jim Corenman doing some rough dialing-in, enough to safely get to redline a couple of times. I set a personal best on the GB test track- The car seems to like the new intake!

Rob not only exceeded the speed on the GB test track, he blew it into oblivion. Previous best was 95mph. Now 140mph.

I really couldn't understand how this was even remotely possible.....until.....

I finally got a turn to drive this car, today, with an entire car load of people that were standing in line to experience what the car would do. (One of which was Roger, stuffed into the back seat.)

Now I understand.

Stupid, stupid fast.

All I could hear, from Roger (in the back seat) was laughing.....

I had a customer that has a stroker that has been waiting for this intake to be done....so he could get one, if it worked. He came back from a ride with Rob, sat down in a chair, and said he thinks it might be too much power.

I've never heard that before.

Kind of fun.

Sure. One time in the last few years I didn't come up for sf. I miss the opportunity for a ride like this.

Hey Greg,

I had a good feeling about the look of this manifold from page 1, glad it's working so well!

What did you do for the plenum itself? Is it a welded unit as well? Or did you find something that you were able to use/modify?

Yes, hand made from aluminum. Very difficult, very complex. The "entry" for each upper manifold is on a slightly different angle, slightly different plane, for all the runners to fit. I literally "ran out of talent" to make this thing and it sat on a shelf for a year. Finally, I rehired the best welder/fabricators I 'd ever had and he took over. Still took two weeks of solid work....and dozens of changes for him to complete. It's as close to a "piece of art" as anything I've ever made.

I've mentioned that we joke about the plenum, in the shop, that it would have been much easier if the people we bought aluminum from stocked pieces larger than 2" x 2". It's been cut up, altered, and re-welded so many times....this is not far from the truth.

Grant (the fabricator) and I were talking today about the plenum...as we considered making multiples of this intake system....about the possibility of having the entire top piece, with the multiple entry angles and planes....digitally mastered and then cut from one piece of aluminum on a CNC. Expensive in small quantities....but this thing is going to be a real bitch to remake, by hand....even with this prototype sitting in front of us.

With a working prototype...... additional CNC pieces makes sense, but what about injection molded plastic like all the LS intakes?

Like everything else it takes VOLUME to offset the startup costs & I would imagine there won't be enough to sell to make it worthwhile...

Kibort could use one, same for Fan & others
