The rear quarter windows can be removed without cutting the seals - I did in on my '82.

About 10 years ago, I was rear-ended hard enough that both doors were pinched shut. The only way I could get into the car was through the rear hatch - then the hatch lock broke ...

As I recall, I took my time and used a couple of plastic bicycle tire levers to ease the glass out after removing the trim strips. Reused the original seals when I put it back together. Good luck.

The hook worked and believe or not, I'm sure this has never happened to anyone, but an hour after I got it open we found the keys. How in the world did they end up in the drawer with the beer opener? One of life's mysterious questions

Nice work. When I locked the keys in my '80, it also involved beer. I knew where the keys were though. I could see them. I got home, opened the hatch, set my keys down inside, grabbed the beer I'd bought, and shut the hatch. Unfortunately for me I was living alone at the time and my house keys were on the same key ring.

Hook from wooden coat hanger. Took me less than a minute to get into my car and my door has the "security" plate.

I aways thought I should replace the "security shield" after I did an R/R on my door handle ??... after reading this I wont bother !

Look at the above - my goodness, why does everyone first conclude that you have to disassemble the car to get in when a simple non-destructive, fast and cheap solution exists! This has been posted over and over

I would never try to go thru the rear quarter window or under the floor or through some other place without trying the simple hook first.

..., maybe simply Ed, some people never come across this fix / did,nt know you could do that ?..especially, that the door has an "anti theft security plate " fitted ?

Question...Is it just a Porsche dealer that can re-key the locks? I have 2 keys, one for the door and one for the ignition. I'd like it to be the same key if possible. Thoughts??

DIY the rekey. It's not hard. When I got my car the hatch key didn't match so I did that one early on. Then last year the driver’s door lock cylinder broke and I got a used replacement, so rekeyed it before installing. There is a photo documentary on rekeying the hatch lock, and if i can find it again I’ll post a link. Then basically the same technique for the door with a few minor variations.
