Supply and demand. In terms of the overall Porsche market, the demand is relatively small... so the supply follows close behind.

Supply and demand. Not a big demand, so higher prices needed to "make it worth the while".

Also Porsche owners require high quality, so sub-standard materials and craftsmanship won't work.

Indeed... "custom" becomes "commodity" with sufficient volume.

I fully understand the economics behind it, but that same free market mentality should motivate a small manufacturer to under cut the price point by 15 or 20 % and corner the market. no? Has anyone attempted to themself, or have someone custom make some headers at a shop?

So how is it lucrative to make/sell 5 sets a year at a reduced margin?

Expensive compared to what? Look up headers for the 355 Ferrari and get back to me......

You want Chevy prices on parts, go buy a Camaro.

Yea really. How many of these posts are you going to make comparing Mustang/domestic mass produced etc. parts with Porsche? They are what they are. You should have researched more before you bought a $1500 Porsche 928, then you wouldn't have been so surprised.

I checked last week on Sanderson (aluminized ceramic coated) headers for the Just Peachy LS build and there $ 525 + $ 74 for the reducers, copper gaskets, and bolts for a total of $ 599 + shipping. T

You do realize that this was the flagship Porsche in its day? As someone mentioned above, checkout ferrari pricing... Anything under a grand for a set is a bargain.
