My maiden voyage on "track":
The RA1s are a little old, but did just fine. The car makes excellent power and I got at least half a dozen complements on how good it sounded. Sorry for the crappy sound...I forgot my external mic. And, the clunk you hear on lateral load is the wood fuse panel cover that came loose (from the massive grip??) that slid around the passenger foot well area.
Ken makes some fantastic chips and I recommend everyone pick them up! Thanks again for delivering the car and I'm sorry I couldn't give you a ride on that Sunday

Nice!
Pretty much how I used to drive (-ish).
Too bad about the volume, but it still sounds great.
How is power oversteer working out for you?

all 928's (especially race ones) are meant to be driven......

I'll be sure to get my external mic in there next time. No wind noise and lots of exhaust
I need to re-learn how to drive with this car. The LSD causes a bit of understeer, but once I learn how to use the new power to rotate the car predictably, I'll be in great shape. I'll be thankful for the understeer for now though, so I don't spin off the track and bend the car

You gotta get out on a BIG track and stretch her legs!!!!!!!!!! 928's are a pretty large car for Autox.....

Could not agree more... Learn how to drive this car & how it handles FIRST... then go on to the fast track! BTW, I love my Porkenized 86.5... nothing nicer for the $$

He is tracking dude, he's learning.
Just because you deny the importance of fundamentals and soak time, doesn't mean the rest of us mortals cant learn something from it.
I can chalk up many many interesting 'wins' from having to encounter something at strange tracks ive not seen before, by the skills learned in autox not taught in road racing.

I totally agree. I've seen way too many people jump into the deep end because they have the money. They never fully learn car control. Any idiot can learn to drive a car at 7 10ths. Learning how to make it dance on the edge takes practice.

Personally I only did a few auto x's & never liked them.....its just not worth a day of my time to run under 5 minutes per day..... BUT it took me YEARS of open track-then racing to become comfortable sliding the car near the limit....
I do think it would be fun to take my Scion FRS to an autox next year....its a much smaller car, thats much more nimble with stock super low grip tires....it should be fun sliding it around.... Hopefully I can get the wife out there as well.....

Typical POC event at the Streets of Willow you get well over an HOUR of driving in groups of cars continuous laps ( no drag race start) broken up into 4 or 5 sessions over the day. All with lap times recorded and posted. Plus you get an instructor to help you with the process. Too much fun !!
