This has also reminded me that I need to update to V4.0 of Ken's chips.

I feel schizophrenic about this.

On one hand, it would be challenge, but likely not nearly as difficult.
I can read assembly code pretty well, now. I already have an outline of what to work on. 24# injectors, etc.
LH2.3 has a newer processor, 8051 vs. 8049, with a better instruction set, and more development tools.
There's a lot more memory to put all kinds of code into. There are more inputs and outputs available.

On the other hand, I'd like to rest for while, be a consumer...but that reminds me of a quote from Blade Runner.

Of course, it may not be the quote from Blade Runner, it's that you remember Blade Runner!

Black car is 'sale pending'.

Before I installed the stock exhaust system, I had to dyno the V4 chipset.

The comparison is a '85 at 0° cam with an older version of my chips.
The graph is very typical of a well sorted S3 5-speed with X or Y-pipe.

I made 324 HP (STD) with -8° cam retard, but took a bit hit in TQ.
Otherwise, the retard graphs are about the same as the '85, below.
Retard keeps breathing over 5700 - HP just flattens out.
I reckon -1° retard would even out the TQ and HP.

Essentially all the new torque is from customized RPM/MAF scaling and retuning!
The big lump at 4250 is all new. I have never dynoed that before.
Even the S3's 'big dip' at 3300 isn't too shabby.
>260 ftlbs at 1700 rpm is diesel worthy.

(SAE for the hater's, y'all )
UNCorrected is pretty much the same as below, using STandarD.

GLWTS Ken. I'll be bugging you for a V4 chipset here in a few months. Hard to think that it'll be better than the current ones, but I said that also after that OTHER update.

Extreme hyperbole alert!

Porken's track car is like the Holbert car for S3's. Some lucky phucky is going end up with the 928 deal of a lifetime. I thought it was a great buy at $7500.

Wish it was me!

Classic powerband trade off......earlier, higher torque peak, or lower torque peak but extends to higher rpm better....

For me....I would take the higher torque, lower peak HP tune....since it would provide the highest average HP between shift points.....

I'll stick my oar in and say what I want you to.. er.. I mean "you want" is a digi-dash '89 with LSD and 5-speed

Of course the superior 2.64 final drive of the 5-speed S4 would be nice, but a GT would do in a pinch

My writeup may be confusing, and/or you are referring to the link with the retard tune?
The graph above shows a torque improvement based almost entirely on the chipset.
The RPM/load columns/rows were reworked to match the S3 better.
Both graphs are at 0° cam.

The '86.5 is using 89 octane.

That said, after driving both, zero cam with plenty of torque -is- more satisfying to drive than a little retard for HP bragging rights.

I've found that gear ratio is a big factor to the tune, so ideally each ratio would get a different chip.

Changing the RPM/MAF relationship even a little changes the fueling considerably with such small maps.

Tuning an auto is a tradeoff, as the converter makes of mess of everything.

Well with how quiet Ken is about the sale, I'm thinking Brian bought it and he is trying to hide it from his wife....
