Prayers for you and family. Though I did not know your Dad personally I talked with him about 928's in 2011 when he had his gold car for sale. He was caring and helpful to me. He made a big impression on me from 1 phone call. God Bless him.

Joseph-
This is a great community, in no small part by your father's participation in it. It won't be the same without him. Take solace in knowing that he was a true character and that he will be missed by many people.

I'm shocked and saddened Joseph. My condolences to you and the rest of your family.
I sent your Dad a PM back in March this year inquiring about his well being, and offering help if he needed it, after reading a comment which seemed intuitively to me, to run a little deeper than I at first read. He thanked me for my concern, but shrugged his posted comment off, with what seemed to me to be a slightly evasive reply, and assured me that all was well.
Obviously at that time all was definitely not well, but he preferred to keep that to himself ... which makes your news now all the more unexpected.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Dan was a valued member of this community and will be missed.

I had the pleasure of visiting with your dad at your house many times over the last 13 years during which he helped me solve a number of vexing problems with my 928 and taught me much more about these cars and how to take care of and fix them. He was completely generous with his time and knowledge even in the last couple of years when he knew his days were numbered. It was so good to see him at Sharks in the Park last May, and it gave me some hope that perhaps he would make a turn for the better. It was hard to learn that Dan's time on earth was coming to an end recently. I admire that you have jumped in to organize and deal with the enormous collection of cars and parts your dad accumulated while following his passion with these cars. Please tell us how we can help when you are ready. There is a large community of 928 owners in the greater Bay Area that knew and treasured Dan and who will be available to help you at any time.

Dear Joseph,
I guess we feared something like this from the vibes coming through. Do take solace in the fact that your late father will be missed, not only on this list but in the various walks of life he invariably will have touched.
Sincere condolences to all your family

I am very sorry to read this, although it wasn't altogether unexpected from some of your dads more recent posts om this forum.
Haviing lost my father in simiilar circumstances a couple of years ago I do know what you are going through. I hope that you had more opportunity to spend time with Dan than I did with my father in those final years (living on the other side of the planet) The only comfort I drew was that I was there towards the end. I know it doesn't help a lot because we would all rather wish that they were still here.
I only met Dan once when he was on a trip to London about 10 or so years ago. At the time I think I had been a 928 owner for about 2 months. But I had read a lot of Rennlist email list and I knew I was meeting one of the greats. I took him to the wilds of South London in my '88SE and met up with another 928 owner (also called Dan) We had an interesting evening discussing everything from US foreign policy to UK politics to his former career running a business refurbishing VW Beetles to 928s of course. I would have loved to hear his impressions of that evening.
Our thoughts and prayers from the other side of the world are with you.
