Many great 928 projects have been completed in the weeks leading up to SITM.
Also, having a plan B is always nice
Either way, it will be a red 928 heading south

Looking good AO!
May be a good time to go with the early style oil pickup (and pan spacer, maybe)
Regarding the baffle, you could go with the simple on 928 Intl sells (Doc Brown design?), or Kuhn's separator. Do you need a custom blockoff plate, or are you working with stock components?

And while I think it's a stretch to get it together by SITM, I agree with Kurt, some of the best work has been done int he weeks leading up to SITM. It can be done, it just depends on my ability to commit time to it.

If you plan to fill the oil filler cavity with SS scrubbers as an oil sperator, keep in mind that filling the engine with oil will be a 2 hr, ordeal. Ask me how I know.

Got my cam gears back yesterday from the coater. THey look pretty good - time will tell. He said they were"Pissing oil" when he tried to pre-heat them. Not surprised considering all the oil that was flinging around that old motor.
Also, I found a local guy to build me an oil-filler baffle. Should get it back tonight or tomorrow. Oh yeah... got a provent on its way to me too. SO it looks like I have all the pieces of the puzzle to complete it. Now I have to bust *** to get it all together.
If i can drop the motor in this weekend (Saturday) I think I should be able to drive it to SITM. It will be close.
More updates coming...

Was able to get my baffle made. Should help quite a bit. This is essentially the same design that I have in the GT and it seems to work very well.
Then I put the timing belt on, but realized I didn't have the back plastic cover installed. Got that on last night, but don't have a picture. The worst part right now is that I am having to clean every single part I put back on and they are all covered in oil and belt dust. UGH! I spent an hour just cleaning up the plastic covers last night. Time to break out the pressure washer...
Oh yeah... oil pump gear nut is tight! Thanks Imre.

Didn't get a chance to do any work (on this project) last night. Ugh! Tick tock...
The motor has to be in on Saturday, for surem if I'm going to have any chance of getting it down there for SITM.
If not in by sometime on Saturday, I will turn my attention to the GT and prep that for the trek. I think I still have a loose bolt on the AC bracket. It also needs a REALLY good cleaning.

Hi Andrew from your engine picture a few things I notice.
It appears that the right head and the center back timing covers are missing,
you only mentioned one, there are two of them
The water pump looks old is the bearing still good and no play on the shaft?
the pulley face looks corroded
Also on the WP where the idler roller bearing was,
did you install a plug for the bolt hole ,
if not coolant will pour out of this opening.
Goodluck with your project, keep the pictures coming
See if you can get a set of Hans MMs this may prevent the engine from being fitted now,
as i dont know what the status of the parts are.

Wow! Eagle eyes!
So the covers... they're in. I had forgotten to put BOTH covers in place, but they are in now. The WP is a bit old, but feels fine and spins freely. I had this from my old 82. We will see how well it lasts. And the PKensioner was missing the plug for the WP, but I found a bolt to shove in there.
MM... The issue with the twin-screws is if I put in new MMs, it will ride a bit too high and the pulley will rub on the hood. I'll run what's in there for now. I can always go back in if needed from below.

FWIW the Hans mounts dont move as much as the rubber mounts do however they seem to allow a small bit more vibration into the chassis
