Reading through this thread I was thinking "Ha! 50K for a highly modified car that won't run? Never happen." Then I saw the pics and I started thinking "what would I have to do to come up with 50K?".

50K for that car is a give away. Hard pressed to find one thing or one spot that hasn't been restored better than new.

Did the 928 engine run when new or was that an option?

I went to the web site.........

Too complicated and time consuming to navigate through, to be honest.

Over the years I have read about and even been involved with projects that went to extremes on these cars. Full P. Champagne interiors, engine rebuilds, powder coatings, strokers, huff jobs like T Murphy and co in Greenbay, spectacular detailing jobs like Kermit, tranny options, wheel and tire gems and all the upgrades possible. Hell even my 89 GT has just about every upgrade there is that is a bolt on.

So I gotta ask......... what is so special about this car? It doesn't have a spoiler or rear wind shield wiper. The interior looks quite nice, nice wheels and Aero mirrors....... prolly a lot more. But what exactly makes this car special, one of a kind?

I get the vario-cam and motor improvements, but the motor is not in the car, burned too much oil when it was (if I understand the story clearly) and the vario-cam is history too, yes?

This place is packed with guys who have done equally marvelous things with the Porsche V8 motor, and they are in the car and running strong.

So again............ what is so special about this car that it should be priced as if it was a low mileage, pristine, 1995 GTS, with a hyman-of-virgin interior?

What am I missing? I have owned my 89GT for 21 years, put countless hours and ridiculous $$$$$ into it. It runs incredibly strong, needs virtually nothing and I still possess all the original take off pieces including the CS wheels.

The car is not for sale but if it was, it wouldn't make half of $50k.

What is it? Sound system??????? waste of money in a car one will resell. Fancy wheels, nope. No engine with an awesome design pedigree?????? Come on.

I am not trying to be a smart *** here (well ok maybe a little ) I just think that as a car for sale thread this one is not designed to sell the car........

If not that, then what?

Hello all, Im looking for a GTS automatic, anything but Red. My wife wants one. I have loved the 928 since its release. It's time to get one.
I'm holding out for a GT3. The 928 may help me forget that HUGE cash dump.
I'm in Texas there has to be a few around that need a new home.

Sterling,

I get that you're done. I've seen it coming for a while based on your posts (what you said and what you didn't). You have been an inspiration to many on here, myself included. In the end though it is (dare I say it?) just a car. *gasp!*.

If you're no longer getting out of it what you want out of it, or it's costing more than you're willing to invest (time, money, passion) then it's a losing bid and it's time to cut it off.

I would suggest getting it back to running condition though without the variocam and uber-engine bits and selling it to someone who wants a sweet car in great condition that runs well. You never expected to make money on the one-of-a-kind engine work you did on it but you may make back some of your investment in parts if you sell them off piecemeal (or let someone else do it for you).

Good luck in your next endeavor, whatever it is. Guys like us can't sit idle so I know you'll be fully invested in some new challenge before long. What the 928 community loses another group will gain.

I've dropped hobbies throughout my life. I think it's a male thing...

Sometimes it becomes your full-time or part-time vocation like Mark Anderson, Roger Tyson, Sean Ratts, Dave & Jeannie, Jerry Feather, Wally Plumley and many others.

If it's time to go-you'll know. If not, you'll recognize sooner than later.
