The mystery is already solved here on RL with regards to the GTS flares on the 91's. Mine has them as well, code XG8, on the cert of authenticity that I got as well.
See this thread for more: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...exclusive.html

Beautiful car BTW, congrats.

Thanks for posting, I always thought something did not look right on the GTS. Now I know the best looking 928 is the GT with flares. Awesome.

Interesting option codes (from Porsche VIN lookup):

XX8 - ??
158 - Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 radio
498 - Without Vehicle "Type" Lettering on Rear End
570 - Air Conditioner with Improved Efficiency (Rear A/C)
650 - Sunroof
980 - Raff leather

The XX8 option is either the widebody or the center caps. I don't have a reference for it so not sure which.

Edit: I searched my option code lists and came up with these three wheel cap option codes:

445 Wheel Rim Caps with Porsche Crest
X89 Painted Porsche Crest Rim Caps
XD4 Porsche Crest Rim Caps

Which implies to me that XX8 is likely to be Widebody.

edit 2: Erkka came to the rescue, I've added XX8 to my list

XX8 is Switch frame in leather. PET does not list XG8 '90-91 GTS rear flares so flares can be later addition.

Thanks - I've added XX8 to my list

I have XG8 down as "Heckspoiler in Wagenfarbe lackiert" (Rear spoiler in body color). (from this source: https://rennlist.com/forums/1611732-post31.html)

The only widebody code I can find is XC1 - Rear Fender Extension, but we know that's the one for the rounded wheel arches, from photos of cars with it.

M595 Rear spoiler painted to match body is normal option code for it but it was probably in use only for GTS MY's. So what is code for Exclusive wide rear end? There is 50 Japanise LHD '90-91 MY S4 automatics with these Exclusive department options:

XD4 Crested rim caps
XF2 Leather instrument housing
XG8 Rear spoiler in body color
XJ5 Rootwood Center Console, Door Panel, Trim Inlays, Analog Clock
XL5 Root wood center console, door panel and trim inlays with analog clock
XX8 Switch frame in leather
X22 Dark rootwood selector lever with leather bellows

These cars could be these special Japanise Executive models but option codes do not show any flare options while they definitelly have them.

Interesting that the CoA states a deleted model sticker... yet someone else has added the 3D version -and has not aligned it as it would have been from the factory.

The 'T' should be lower and slightly to the right of center of the 'G' -so that nothing is past the 'E' in PORSCHE.

A photo of the options sticker under the hatch floor mat would be a nice reference item as well...

XX9 could be mystery code but PET only lists one '91 MY US S4 with it.

Here are my option codes. When I get home i will check the cert of authenticity that I got from Porsche NA. Mine for sure has the GTS flares from factory:

XD4
XF2
XG8
XJ5
XL5
XX8
X22
139
340
400
980

And here is the butt pic:

Yes a pic from the auto show would be great. I have searched but have had no such luck.

And thanks all for the kind comments. It really is a beautiful car!

The OP/owner in this thread also hoping to find out more.

I know the car as I nearly bought it last year - it was a sister car to my 1990 LHD Slate Grey GT.

The GTS arches were not factory installed - it was a 1990 GT - the rear GTS valance was not being made at the time. Gerhard Berger was indeed the first owner, which means that the car could have gone back to the factory to have the arches done at some point, but strangely the original flag mirrors were kept. Overall, though, it is a very nice car, with a full leather dash - something very rare on the the somewhat poverty spec GTs of the period. The only downside was that it was sitting on the wider 968 Cup I 17s - very rare and expensive, but the wrong offset for the 928...

Hi Cheburator, the 17" dia 968 Cup 1 wheels you mentioned are perfect for the 928 ( 86 - 95 ) , the optional 17" cup 1 wheels on a 968 ( 1992 & 1993) front are 7.5J X 17" X 65mm offset ( 965 362 124 05 61M ) & the Rears are 9J X 17" X 55mm off set ( 965 362 128 00 ) , what's nice about these is that they are identical to the 928GTS wheels ( 92 - 93) in cup 1 style but without the holes for the tyres pressure sensors , we have purchased quite a few of these over the years from Porsche as we have found most customers prefer the look of the cup 1's over the cup 2's

I think it went for around £7k on Ebay. I was very close but the having been laid up for awhile/just re-commissioned part and no history kept me away - I already have one of those.

For the money it was a bargain. I just found it hard to explain to my wife that I need a 6th car, while living in London. I don't think it sold, by the way - I believe it is still up north in Newcastle...

You are talking about the wrong CUP I wheel here, Jet... The car in question had 8" ET52 front wheels which are totally wrong for the 928...

Wrong at front but usable same way as many aftermarket wheels. They are just right for GTS at rear for winter tires.
