Default How's the 928 scene in the Lake Norman, nc area?

Will be spending at least a year in the Lake Norman area. How's the 928 scene round here? Are there many rennlisters that live in the region?

There is no internet in those backwoods. All the Rennlisters are in the Charlotte area.

Too funny James-man. My 928 is up on all fours almost completely stripped down (engine, tranny, suspension, interior all out), but if I was up and running I would be hanging around more. Charlotte is a great classic car town.

Check out the thread below for info on the crowd up here. I went to college down in Texas (san anton) before getting the hell out. (no offense to the loyal TX crowd) Hope you like your stay around here.

i am down on "the other lake", south of charlotte, but find myself up in Davidson quite often spending time with my dad and his 911 club racer or heading to Mooresville for the karts.
Always up for a drive and a get together if you ever want to , or if you ever need an extra set of hands for maintenance or repairs, just let me know....

I love Lake Norman. While driving to the south on 77, we love seeing the lake side homes and harbors of Lake Norman. My wife and I always say "Maybe someday........"

Is lake norman considered a back woods area? I think it's really nice here. Seems like an awesome area for a gear head and everything is so green and colorful compared to San Antonio. Hey JW, I plan on doing a lot of work to my S4 this year. Anyone know of a good body shop in the greater Charlotte area that's painted a 928 before? Thinking of getting my felsengruen S4 painted and fenders flared while I'm up here.

i will probably be looking to get the work done next month before Sharks In the Mountains...so i can't personally vouch for their work yet, but the ole man speaks very highly of them.../

Quite a few 928s in Raleigh and the PCA Hurricane Region. I joke that in our region there is a bit of peer pressure to own a 928 as well as whatever P-car you already own. Now if I could just find the time to getting mine back on the road again...

I live se of Charlotte in Monroe. This is a great place to enjoy the 928. Lots of folks that are willing to lend a hand. I throw myself into that boat as well. I have the lift bars that go over the fenders to raise the engine if you need to borrow them.

I'm kidding around. You already know Lake Norman is popular and lovely. I'll bet most people can get 4G service while out on their boats.

I love how green everything is in this region. A contrast to the thristy looking Californa area I grew up in.

Charlotte is very close. Many would consider Lake Norman as part of the Charlotte area. You don't want to leave the good 928 brothas from Charlotte out of coffee outings would you? Really?

Exciting change - good luck!

You mean the San Antonio where nothing but an inch or 2 of clay and crabgrass grows unless you can afford full sod and irrigation? I did 5 yrs of servitude in San Antonio at St. Mary's Univ. and couldn't wait to get out due to weather, scenery, and such. Moved to the Shenandoah Valley for 8 yrs and then Charlotte the past 4 yrs. Definitely a more beautiful area and I missed the seasons growing up in St. Louis.

I do wish I could have brought Jim's and Bill Miller's BBQ with me. The food just doesn't compare. San Antonio was my 1st close up experience with a 928 when we moved across the street from a guy who owned a gorgeous 928 GTS that he only drove on the weekends here and there and in parades every now and then. Always in the garage and covered. Have fun with the work this year. Maybe I can get my shark roadworthy by the end of this year and can start making it to some events. Enjoy Charlotte and likely a very hot summer on the lake.

I second the vote for Loren at Import Paint and Body... he has had quite a few 928's there!

And, if you need any mechanical work... Jim Burton (Master Mechanic at Hendrick Porsche) is our local guru. He cut his teeth on these when they were new. None better in this area!

And yes, the largest concentration of 928's in NC seems to be the Charlotte metro area (Lake Norman inclusive)!

You're not lying about the crab grass that's for sure. I also will miss Bill Millers barbeque but I'll miss Rudy's barbeque even more. Is there such a thing as good mexican food in the Charlotte area? The wife and I have gone to two or three around lake norrman and they're terrible! The barbeque is also very different here, they use hickory as opposed to mesquite and put vinegar on the meat??
