Default Next big project

I am going to take the 928 off the road for a while this spring and do a major refresh of the torque tube, rear suspension, front brakes, and other odds and ends. Let me know if I have missed any WYAIT's for these projects.

1. TT gets new Black Sea R&D super bearings, torque converter bearings, trans pump seal and o-ring, and rear main seal
2. Rear suspension gets shocks rebuilt, new upper arm bushings, new lower arm bushings (those that are available), new sway bar mount rubbers, and a "new" used rear carrier (someone in the past failed to properly torque the camber bolts which caused damage to the bearing surface for the passenger side adjuster cam plates resulting in camber imbalance side to side)
3. Front brakes get new rotors and pads, damping plates, and fresh hoses along with a re-finish of the calipers. The rear brakes get new hoses and a caliper re-finish as well.
4. Finish changing the 4 gaskets on the driver side exhaust manifold and see if I can eliminate my cold engine noises
5. Install rebuilt front lower arms
6. Evac and flush A/C condenser and both evaps. All new o-rings, expansion valves, drier, and have barrier hoses rebuilt (great local shop that did all my trans cooler and oil cooler lines) re-charge with fresh 134a.

What have I missed or forgotten that should be on the WYAIT list for all this work. Do I need to look at B2 piston or was that issue only on early 4 speeds?

Thanks

Mike

That's a good list Probably replace transmission mounts and flush the PSD while you're up in there near the slave.

May be implicit with the rotors, but front wheel bearings would be on my list.

How many miles do you have on the Gates belt? Did it require readjustment when rechecking the tension, or have you not hit that mark yet?

Front wheel bearings and seals already done, but thanks for the suggestion.

I have about 6k miles on the Gates belt. No need to re-tension with the PorKensioner I have on her. Only thing I notice is some belt squeak until the belt is fully warmed. I have pulled the upper covers twice and the entire timing cover twice checking on it and all is well. Haven't noticed anything unusual.

Drop links are a wear items, so it pay to check those out.

If you have some cash left refresh the calipers with new seals (and pistons).

Oh yeah, hand brake refresh.

Thanks Aryan. Not sure that new OE drop links are in the budget this go. Porsche is REALLY proud of the fronts and the left rear link! Not sure I want to go with adjustable solid links. I thought about new caliper pistons but just can't swing the funds right now. I have considered a new master cylinder. The parking brake shoes and hardware were done by the PO just before I bought the car.

I am still looking for stuff I should do while I have the TT and rear suspension out so keep 'em coming.

You can't do the primary pump seal with the tranny in the car, so I assume you are pulling it out. Most people pull it to do the TT anyway, although the TT can be done w/o pulling the tranny. Might as well at least check the K1 clutch pack in that case. TC seal should be done. Have you done the TC cover bearings already?

I didn't update the B2 piston, but it is probably a good idea. Tails did a 4-part tome on the piston and the band. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...placement.html

Thanks Bill. I plan to drop the trans as I need to replace the TC carrier bearings and front seal/pump seal. I wasn't sure about the B2 update as I couldn't find out when they finally solved the problem. I'll plan to inspect the B2 piston and band. If updated parts are needed they will get installed. I'll also do the K1 spring pack update.

Mike
