i know this should probably go in the "so what did you do with your 928 today" thread, but it was SOOOO good i had to start a new thread.........i also need some background to set the mood for the epic day with the big mac..
We had tens of thousands of dollars in uninsured damage from hurricane Irene..
So wee got our equity line loan and moved out in december to let the contractor get started.... Well he stood us up and never showed... So to work I went.. evey weekend/evening, worked my butt off during our week we were closed after christmas... removed a 150 year old two story interior chimney, tore out the master bedroom floor, rebuilt the sill, reframed the walls, furred out the very unleve ceiling, built a tray ceiling, installed all the wiring, lights, subfloor, floor joists, insulated, and ran all the duct work... we FINALLY found someone that could get in and do the rest of the work...
So we have had this 150 year old house that was getting torn out and having the almost entire house rebuilt from the inside. We are having to do alot of the work, as out budget is VERY tight...so for the last three and a half months I have been working my butt off getting the house in shape.
During all this i also had to replace the wheel bearing, and replace all the power steering hoses. I also had the car painted (well most of it repainted..GREAT JOB..)...
I have been mainly looking at the car and not driving it much... Made one trip to raleigh, but it was rainy, and mostly interstate driving..
WELL that changed yesterday. It was beautiful here.. low to mid 70's sunny.. PERFECT... so the wife looks at me as i am finishing installing our attic trap door/staircase thing, and says.." I'll take the kid.... you go for a drive...." what a wonderful woman.
So i hop in the car and take off.. windows down, sunroof open, radio blaring....
I drove "downeast" for several hours. "downeast" for those unfamiliar with our area is the easternmost part of nc. Very undeveloped, lots of roads in the marshes with no cross street for miles.. no houses, no police, just asphalt and salt marshes, and spectacular views..
There are several small "towns" along the way... Davis, Straits, Harkers Island, betty, smyrna, atlantic, sea level.. then finally cedar island..
I took the few side streets and drove every mile of road down there.. it was AWESOME....
the car was running perfect.. I had to stop for fuel, and several guys came out and were talking about the 928 and we talked for a few minutes....
Several people on the road gave mu thumbs up as i passed..
No stop lights, only two or three stop signs on the whole 3 hour drive.
made me realize why i love this car......

Thanks for sharing that, it put a smile on my face! I can't tell you how many times I've had a bad day and a drive just melts the stress away.
I'm sure most folks just wouldn't understand!
Good luck on your house, sounds like you are through the tough part.

it was a total stress reliever...
sorry for the longish post... it was just to give context as to why it was such a needed day in the 928...
if any of you want to head down this summer, we have a 30'sailboat, and a small motor boat....
a few days on the water, and a few days blasting highway 12...
highway 12 is a great road... it has a few ferries, and some beautiful scenery... a few twisties, and some nice LONG deserted straits with only a few hundred feet of sand on each side, and then ocean on one side, and large sound on the other... VERY nice for a weekend drive.

I had a stress relief drive yesterday myself... same sunny mild temp weather... very hard to resist the "beckoning" from the Great White shark... Not NEARLY as nice of scenery as NC, but you make due with what you've got
Ripped up a couple of twisty on-ramps in 2nd/3rd ( those are fun
and blasted down I-70 East then off onto back roads and back home via the OVERLY EXTENDED route... Damn! I love this car!!!

It's starting to warm up here in the Toronto area and I'm aiming to wake her up on Friday for a Saturday drive. I'm really anxious. Thanks for sharing. I don't envy what you and your family went through.

You should have dropped by. Since I am going to be starting on the house at the beach in the next few weeks doing similiar stuff as you are doning to your house, please let me know when you need an extra parir of hands. I have an old degree in Architecture so I know a little about most areas of building and I grew up with a hammer in one hand wrench in the other. The offer is sincere. You know that the shark has been physical theropy for my hands and sholders and it has worked petty well. Been feeling much better these days. Shark will be mostly finished early next week. My wife and I LOVE old houses. We had an Empire style '1919' In downtown Kernersville that is the love of our life. It was haunted and that drove me crazy but wife did not care, she loved the house.... Stories at some later visit. We can compare notes. You just let me know when I can help, ok? Im glad you enjoied the day. I finished the transmision work and got it filled with fluid. Next, today comes the ball joints and rack.
Cheers,
Cheers,

Right on! We had a beautiful sunny day on Sunday. Took the 928 out of storage. Grandma watched the kids, and the lovely wife and I jumped in the Shark and took a nice ride on the back, country roads. Lots of compliments and a nod and a wave from a Mustang Convertible driver. The sun is poking out today, and the 928 is sitting here at work in a parking spot, waiting for lunch hour. Woohoo! Life is good when you own the legend.
