Default 78 Oil Pickup on a GT?

So I was told the ob pickup is a good idea ... ordered and received one form Mark Anderson .... here's the schematic. I can see that the screen is a good idea, but how does it all work? Mine came as one screen and one unit (pickup) with a rubber end. Am I missing something? Maybe number 14? Or, is it that the oil pan ALSO needs to be an early one? Mine doesn't have the round reservoir -looking thing ....

the pickup is typically assembled....so its 3 parts....the plastic insert, the mesh screen and the spring loaded pickup.....is that what you have?

H-

Here's the setup I have now in the bottom of the stroker- the 'petals' are bolted to the GTS pan from the engine I blew up (had to be tapped for the petals and the screen, of course) so this OB oil pickup setup works fine with a later pan.

If you're going to use a pan spacer, you'll want to make the dipstick hole in the sump screen more 'oval', front to back - the spacer alters the geometry of the screen enough that this becomes necessary.

I am still not seeing the significance of this, other than that the plastic piece changes the way the oil will be accessible to the rubber pickup.

If you are running a pan spacer you will need to put spacers where the pick up mounts to the cradle to take up the space created by the pick up tube extension.

I'm not convinced by this change. In fact, I went to S4 from the "cloverleaf" arrangement. I believe that air get under the shroud before the S4 pickup is exposed.

In any case, the S4 has a screen and that has appeal to me having grenaded an engine. Fewer shards, or at least smaller, in the heads that way.

Glen did you also replace your oil pan? Because the S4 (well at least the GT) pickup does not fit into an 85 pan, but maybe the earlier (79) pan is again different.

Incidentally I will be happy to trade anyone my S4/85/GT parts for their early car parts.

H, yes, that's the pickup spacer. You can see the other spacers for the pickup mounting bolts here. They're, uh, 3/8" thick.
