Default Stuff to make for the 928? TIG welding?

I am trying to learn to get really good tig welding thin aluminum.
Trust me on this, it is harder than it looks like on thin aluminum, at least for me it is.

I can see a lot of places that it would be far better to use aluminum for brackets, plates, just a lot of thing over steel on a 928.

Any one else TIG weld?

PS, I seem to have little problems on Stainless, but aluminum seems to magnify every little mistake.

So who else here?

I know Duckman and Polecat are pros at this.

Todd is a master. The welds he makes make women swoon and men jealous.

Good luck, you should see me with a tig/mig in my hands, I end up with a mountain of beaded material and the two pieces I tried to join are in separate rooms.

It takes a lot of time welding, steady hands, good eyes and better timing, four things I seem to be lacking in right now.

I have problems managing the perfect heat and puddle for thin alum...anything under 060.

Hot and fast baby.... or make sure you have a nice heat sync backer plate and go steady and mid heat.

I have gotten ok on .030 5052 and 3003.
I still have issues making it look like a machine did it, and for me that is what it i going to take for me to be happy about it.

You can always claim is was a broken machine that did it.

The best welder where I work has the shakes. His hand tremble and shake right up until he puts the welder to the metal then he is as smooth as glass.

I looked at getting some thick copper plate, well that did not take long to just look, they are really proud of that stuff.

Then I have hope, I have been welding during lunch and on weekends trying to get better, I fear it is going to be a long road, but I will get there.

metal prep is a big one too. getting the oxide off the metal AND the fill rod is crusial.

My welds...are ok.

But I spend as MUCH time on prep, as I do gluing the pieces together...sometimes more.

It pays off.
