I'm going to look local. I think an exhaust will be my first major tig project for my shark. And building up the front protection plates ( Carl's kit) when they wear down..

A conveyor power unit frame at work today. 1/8th inch 304 stainless steel. In the shop I have Lincoln Precision Tig 275's and 350's. Good strong machines and great for production work. Good for aluminum also but not alot of adjustment choices for AC welding aluminum. My personal welder is a Miller 200DX inverter machine and it's the bomb! All sorts of adjustment and choices of wave forms and frequency settings as well as pulse options. A hell of alot more control when welding thin aluminum. It helped out enormously when welding my front fenders.
Greg, keep practicing on the aluminum and become proficient in that and everything else will follow without much effort. High heat fast up front and back peddle as you go as the base material heats up. weldingtipsandtricks.com is a great place for welding instruction.

That looks really good Ed.
I have been watching all of Jody's vids, they are really good.
Welding tips and tricks
When I first started out with TIG I started with 1/8 304, mine at first all ended up with black on the outside of the welds from too much heat, those welds look really good.
I have figured out that constant practice is going to be the key to getting good with the TIG.

Which Hobart are you looking at?
Some seem to get better reviews than others.
Here is the place to ask about different welders.

The general rule of thumb seems to be that the Millers are the top of the line for industrial type machines, with some other special machines being better for other things, from what I have read any way.
I do know if I buy another one it will be a inverter based machine.
