Default Timing belt / Waterpump Replacement

It has begun. First time doing a job this big, but with the help of Rennlist and the write ups ,(w/pics) of its members, I have the confidence to tackle it. I started tonight and worked for three hours. I got the cam gears exposed and they look pretty shot to me. Time to replace them?

If the gears are not worn to bad you could try recoating with DFL-1 , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZoZj...ayer_embedded#

otherwise the new cam gears will set you back around 900.00 for both.

You need new cam gears based on the wear that appears to be on them.

Looks like you have everything set up to do it. Yea, I'd replace those gears.

Well installed!
Take your time and everything will go fine.
With good procedures like Dwayne's and others you should be good.
Yes, those cam gears look quite bad.
They are quite expensive so if you could recoat them it would be cheaper I guess.
But I never been there (recoating), so...

I was scrolling to see what heater would be in play to keep the garage toasty....ah, the un-fun memories of my days working away outside in Jan on the stone driveway....

Default 7 hour into it

Got the timing belt out. It's proving to be a very enjoyable job. I just keep thinking how much all this time and money is going to pay off when I'm done. This is a beautiful machine and it deserves to be taken care of. I'm happy to do it!

Take the oil level dip stick out, otherwise it will break. Change the O ring at the base of the dip stick tube going into the oil pan.

Looks like you're off to a great start. The workshop looks like new construction with plenty of shelf space and room to work - Great way to break in the new workshop - Nice!

Thank you Dwayne...., its your write ups that are on my lap top guiding me through the whole process.
I haven't even had to open my brand new set of workshop manuals once.
Everything I need to know I can find on your pages, thank you, thank you, thank you.

when you put on a new steel oil pump pulley,
remove the 1MM spacer behind the old gear,
you can see the spacer in your picture
