Who cares about how much horsepower it makes? Everybody knows torque is what's important.

The Nissan VQ series engines have been around for quite a while (since the mid 90s.) They've been subjected to ongoing development by Nissan for over 15 years. Porsche didn't invest anywhere near the time (in man hours) or the money to develop the 928 engine. You can discuss technical differences, but it really boils down to time and resources. Nissan invested more of both.

betcha the nissan was painted yellow too, thats like 40hp right there.
the 3.5L engine is very restricted the exhaust helps it a lot. and chipping a new car will help more than with older cars. new cars are very restrained...the Z is also lighter in most cases than a 928...and it has very good sports car gearing rather than gt/cruise gearing.

Ever driven one? They buck and hammer your kidneys pretty hard. Tincans can be fast, wonder if it will last

Simple, they DON'T. That kind of power means its more than likely turbocharged. Stock dyno numbers are WAY under 300rwhp.
