Default 2011 Sharktoberfest Fun Run

I went out scouting a route for this year's fun run yesterday, and I put together what I think is a nice route- It's a bit of a hike overall (I drove ~240 miles in all, before 9:15 AM yesterday...) but if we elect to do the whole route there's a nice mix of really tight twisties, rolling canyon runs, and a few remote straights too. 105 miles of actual twisty bits, and probably 200 miles round-trip from 928Intl.

Details to follow on 10/7, but here's a very poorly edited teaser video - obviously I'm still learning how to play with video files. This started off as 2 hrs 15 minutes (9.5 GB) of video. You may want to turn the sound off, there's an annoying rattle 'cause I failed to tighten one of the set screws on the mount, and I am too old to overdub with bad Czech electronica.

Four mins of video and I saw your hand touch the gear shift once. Speaks to the torque of the stroker, and or, you've really wanted a Rogerbox all along.

I've never driven the road in the first half of the video before, and it is VERY twisty (the segment of the video doesn't capture nearly the most extreme parts), I wasn't going much more than 35 mph in any of that stretch. There's quite a dropoff just beyond that guardrail. The middle portion is a canyon run and moves a bit faster, and the last bit could easily be done at triple digit speed if one was so inclined (not that I'm inclined, I'm just sayin'). This is one of those treks that is probably best done as early in the day as possible- we'll see how everyone feels after Saturday night...

I remember 2006, we don't want anyone even coming close to going over the edge....

I remember it well, too. We'll want to be careful over the first leg, there's about 15 miles of blind corner stuff and lots of elevation change marked for 20 and sometimes 15 mph. The rest of the run opens up and isn't quite so tight, but there are still some pretty good dropoffs late in the run as well. Very little in the way of rock debris yesterday, which is good. There was a lot of dirt and gravel on Glendora Ridge Road in that 2006 run, IIRC.

Fun run ended a little early for me, 1 mile before the first 'fun' section. Lost fuel pressure (<10psi on the rail gauge) and coasted over to the side of the freeway, swapping relays and fuses around didn't cure it. So either the 044 pump died, or something in my remote FP relay harness is dead. And of course there's 18-ish gallons of gas in the tank....

Beautiful morning here, should have been a nice drive for everyone, I hope!

I'm developing a good collection of 'GTS on a flatbed' pics....

I'm really not trying to laugh at your misfortune, however struggling. I feel your pain, 2009 was the year of the flatbed for me. When I think back at it, I laugh as well.

Rob, thanks for organising a great run. Sorry we could not get your car running, but it was in a safe spot.We had a great run thorugh some very senic countrydide. I enjoyed being a passenger with PorKen, took a few photos, but they are trapped in the camera as I did not bring a mini USD cable.

Rob, you picked a great one! We missed the last turn though, and headed down 2 instead.

Fuel pump problem is better than connecting rod poking out of oil pan?

Mechanic's creed:

Whenever a problem occurs, always go back and revisit whatever you touched last. Seems like your car looked like a "theft recovery", yesterday when you guys were installing/wiring your stereo/speaker. If that is where your "secondary" relay for the 044 pump is located, that is where I'd start.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, Rob, especially after you've put so much effort into the event. Hope you get your GTS running again soon without too much trouble.
