Default What t-shirt size do you wear? Help for a new brand launch

Looking for some help for a new brand we are launching to go alongside The Nine Source; any input would be very much appreciated.

The question is, what t-shirt size do you wear (please vote in the poll)? We need help with t-shirt sizing for a decent ratio to keep in inventory. If you care to elaborate in a reply, what do you look for in a good t-shirt? What words come to mind when you think of your favorite t-shirt?

A little more info for those wondering what we are up to (keeping it under wraps to a degree until inventory is ready):
Blog: CLICK HERE - Already rolling, will have product updates and info on launch dates of different designs, along with our different project car builds, maintenance, and racing. I will be documenting the rebuild of Lucy (928 race car) on the blog as well--just put up a post with some info on where we are at right now, so check it out!

Our website will launch in a few weeks with a more informative announcement, but we have some really kickass, high-quality t-shirt designs in the pipeline that I think you guys are going to really like. The site will also feature select 928 parts available from The Nine Source, as well as some more creative/abstract items like garage and office decorations, many of which will be created from salvage p-car & 928 parts not fit for sale to reuse.

Good t-shirt IMHO == good fabric and stitching. Most product t-shirts are crappy and cheap .... so even if I like the logo, I won't wear it because it feels and looks cheap compared to finer cotton and better craftmanship. Additionally of course, the item needs to LOOK good, ie be something I'd like to wear, not feel ashamed to wear out in public.

Mark, A small logo on the front (9) and a larger pic on the back in 100% cotton would be a good start.02. T

I couldn't agree with you more, Heinrich. That is primarily what I have been preaching since the idea began. It got pretty frustrating after going through 40+ samples of different blanks with seemingly ubiquitous poor craftsmanship, but we have found some really high-quality stuff after searching a little harder. Quality of construction, whether it is in a t-shirt or a custom roll cage, is one of my pet peeves.

I appreciate the input, sir

Thanks for the votes so far!

Randy, I hope you realize my initial target market are these very fellows helping me decide on sizing. I intend to offer products to the 928 folks initially, as that is my primary customer base. Move to OT if you see fit, but I had a reason for posting here.

I move nothing.

Are you inferring that 928 folks are a different size than the general population?

Don't forget to offer some women's shapes and sizes.

Providing the design could appeal to us.

Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirts are by far the best I have ever had for feel (very soft). I agree with Tony, simple on the front and elaborate on the back.

Good luck with the launch, can't wait to see it!

some of the best Tee's were the "Ringer" which had a colored neck and short-sleeve cuffs and the 2-tone reversible Tee - 2 t-shirts stuck to one another basically. Both of these in the highest cotton percentage and weight. Thick and soft. Hanes Beefy T was a good choice for straight white. There were some small producers of unique styles years ago, I would not be surprised if they were out of business.

Broder Bros used to be the best dist.

But what will be the idea/theme of the graphics? (Car shirts are on topic)

Unless they have bought all the equipment and want the hassle that goes with that, paying someone else to print these will kill profits if you do 2 sides and want cool graphics.

Problem with T-shirts in general, most people expect them to be free or cheap and a good quality shirt with a nice colorful design is expensive. Add in the fact that you will have to have a lot of inventory just hanging around ....................

There is a lot to know, 4 color process or just multi-colors, over-size graphics .......

Thanks everyone, the input is very much appreciated.

Nicole, are you interested in a unisex size small? Or are you exclusively interested in a female-cut shirt? This is truly an area that I am not sure what to do, as there are also budget constraints with the first runs and I have to consider how large my initial female market will be.

My fiance is happy to wear a unisex small when it is a more masculine/casual shirt design (car-related designs have an inherent hint of masculinity IMO), of course only if it is a softer, high-quality shirt. For a female-specific cut, do you know of any shirts that are your favorites? Thanks so much.

Most important part to me (apart form low shrinkage - I really hate having to re-stretch shirts after they come out of the dryer, and just dont fit right in certain places, like the armpit) is using a quality applique. I really like single color plastiol printed graphics. They seem to hold up year after year.

I wear a bunch of T-shirts. I slowly started wearing them more often, and now I wear shorts, t-shirts, and sandles into the office every day, so mine get really high laundry turn-over. The plastisol really seem to hold up the best. I am a big threadless fan. I love their designs, but they just dont hold up like my cheap $9 FreshPrint (ebay company) shirts. I have some of those which I wear once every 10 or so days for the past 4 years, and they still look good enough to wear in the office.

My $0.02

BTW good luck. You have an instant customer with me.

Hans
