Weight of aftermarket Carrera 5 spoke wheels? Experiences buying from WAC?

I bought some Italian replica Turbo twists off Ebay for $200 a couple years back, looked correct, balanced with minimal weight and no heavier then any other solid spoke wheel. These guys wouldn't be in business if the wheels they sold wobbled like crazy when new.

Don't forget that Mike is a machinest extraordinaire...... To him, anything he didn't machine himself is well...just that LOL...
Like Ted said..for the most part...the aftermarket wheels are OK... cast..heavy etc.. but they work for the street.
as far as cheap bastid 928 owners... sounds redundant to me...

Another option would be to go with the Panamera wheels. The 5 spoke, while a bit different design, still look very good. Plus they have good offsets (Front 8" ET59 and Rear 9" ET53) and are made by BBS. Another plus, they can be had at prices us cheap 928 bastages can afford.

The replicas that I got were straight and true. Minimal weight was required to balance the wheels and tires. I have seen some factory wheels with more weight on them than these replicas. Joe

yep, who cares unless you are racing! actually, heavier wheels has its benefits! (more resistant to lock ups . Poor cheap, 928 bastard, ABS )
Randy, pleeeezz we are all cheap bastards here! if we werent, we would own a never car, like an AM.
and also, there is a differnece between CHEAP and SMART! i havent bought a new tire since 2001. my times havent been hurt a bit! I also have a garage full of 3-4 heat cycle hoosiers, toyos and even some yoke and pirelli slicks.
I bought 2010 wheels for my Tahoe on ebay for the cost of what new tires would have cost. by the way, they came with 5000mile all terrain tires too! yeah, some call it cheap, i call it smart. My entire racing budget is probably as much a you might pay per year on "stuff" from the dealer each year!
Anyway, back to topic. i would definitely try and find some real porsche wheels on line, but if you cant, aftermarkets that are a little heavier are very nice! they are strong and round and will look great. even if you are racing, who cares, 6lbs of weight (x4) more on the wheels (kenesis 19lbs vs aftermarket 25lbs) is worth the same as if you had 4gallons of water sitting in your passenger seat. 32extra lbs is not going to be noticed even in most spirited driving mode!

Cool, more good input. Appreciate it everyone.
Regarding the Panamera wheels, or other styles, I'm set on the Carrera 5 spoke (first choice), or the Carrera III (second choice).
Thanks again. -Ed

Just ignore Randy. He's always like that, nothing to do with your or the subject at hand. If you could buy your replica wheels through a good tire and wheel shop they could check them for out of round and work it out with the supplier if there was a problem. Getting used stock wheels is not a promise that they will be round either. My '79 had manhole covers that were almost square when I got it. And I got a used S4 rim from top supplier that was way out too. Of course they made it right. I think the key is that what everyou buy in terms or rims, you want to buy from a vendor who you trust to make it right if there is a problem. And you want to run them through a really good wheel/tire shop that can really check them out when your first get them.

For those of you wondering how important wheel weight is go drive an suv or truck with some big *** wheels. The ride sucks and so does the braking. Adding 10 lbs of sprung weight is a much bigger deal than you might imagine.

Not to hijack, but I might be interested in your cup I's if you sell.

Yes I did ask for it.
And thank you for the advice.
Which is what I should have said in the first place.
I now retract my prior request to you (but will not delete it in the interest of historical record. And entertainment for the list).
Please look me up the next time you're in the Seattle area so I can buy you a beer. Or two. I promise I will not skimp. -Ed
