Now that I think about it, while the Merc AMG GT probably is closest to what the 928 may have evolved into, it's the Jaguar F-Type that continues the 928's "best looking sports car rear end" legacy IMO.

And since, as they say, "unless you're in front of the pack, the view never changes", the rear end design of the 928 has tremendous social and cultural importance.

i test drove the Jaguar and AMG GT both when I was looking.
I thought the Jaguar ride was more sports car than GT and the outward visibility in both was not as good as I like

Is Jaguar still using Lucas electrics though? That could be a deal breaker for me. I love the look of the AMG GT and the performance specs are amazing, but I once had an affair with the Jag XJS that went sour over the electrics. A friend of mine at the time had one and went through it with a fine tooth comb, replaced all the Lucas parts with AC Delco. Never had a problem with the car after that.

Sorry everyone. I have no idea at all what happened here, the site converted a pasted image to text for some reason and it won't let me edit or delete it.

MODERATORS: please delete my last post to this thread and do your best to figure out what went wrong here.

Thanks,

Thinking about a DB9

It has a V-12 and quite a nice backside...

I'm going to try this again, even though I know Nate's seen one of these before, I still think the rear view of the Merc AMG-GT is about as close as you can get to a 928:

Default Mercedes AMG GT R

And for those of us who like to see what's up front:

Personally I plan to wait a few years and pick up one of these babies after it's depreciated out of the stratosphere. I made the mistake of buying a new 928 once when I was young, rich and stupid. I won't being doing that twice...

Default AMG GT in racing livery

Finally, here's the car I really want. I have to say I don't much care for the metallic lime green version:

The rear does not look like a 928 at all - unfortunately for the 928.

The AMG has beautiful hips jutting out from under the side-glass as shown in the picture.

The 928 has no hips at all, not even remotely. Its side-glass is flush with outside fender giving it a slabby, fatty, not sexy at all look compared to the AMG.

The 928 wished its rear looked half-as-good as the AMG's.
