You don't have enough torque to turn that impeller. It'll dog out around 3500 or so. It may not even get on step
The water volume from the pump is plenty to cool the engine. I just wonder about pre-heating for the 928 engine. Most big blocks don't use a water pump, they just take the draw from the jet pump and pre-heat it through the aluminum exhausts. They're called water logs, and there are several makers, but none for the 928. It's possible to re-rig the cooling system so that it's a blocked style like a Chebby, so check into that, rather than a full bypass setup like a 928 car.
You have to have a damper on the front of the crank, so there's no way to avoid spinny things on the front of the engine. Just mount the alt up front where the old one was, and drive it with one of the v belt pulleys already provided. Put a chrome cover on it if you are concerned about toes. I just usually put up a small wood wall around the front of the engine that comes up easily. It keeps feet out of there, and it tends to block the view of the dirty bilge bay. They can lift right out for service.

I actually have full set of 928 marine conversion parts, including water cooled exhaust and closed loop cooling that I chose to not use on this build. They are for an S4 engine but could be adapted. I'm saving them for a future project.

Engine mock up
The trailer is now at the blaster's so I switched focus to mocking up the engine and making some mounts. Here are a few pictures of the parts being test fitted.
First, Alice gets a grip on our mockup engine and holds it at a good working height.
Next, stock flywheel gets mounted. For mock up, I'm just using a few temporary fasteners.
The first adapter plate is made of aluminum and takes me from the flywheel to various common boat drives.

The next adapter has a boss in the center that press fits into the drive shaft.
The shaft is so short that it's actually only two u-joints and a splined receiver that will slide onto the jet drive shaft.
The bell housing I'm using is an actual Porsche factory part....see pic of the part number

The bell housing has an upper boss that looks like a starter mount that has not been machined yet. I also have a filler plate for the bottom that has a starter mount in the stock 928 location. I mounted the plate and a starter and had to call it a day. I'm going to jump the starter and make sure it engages the flywheel but at first look, I think it is correctly positioned. This location does impact my deep sump plans.......

Wow those water logs look weird. I bet they're worth something. <EDIT: I looked up the torque curve for the impeller and it looks like you may have the right one if the original guy sourced it right. I'm assuming he has a C or D SS impeller in there. A C model will dissipate 325HP @ 5300, and a D will dissipate 325 @ 5600. If it's a C, you'll have decent hole shot, but better fuel economy during low speed running. If it's a D it'll be a monster out of the hole, but you'll overrun it a bit during normal running. If he has an A in there, it's gonna bog and not make much power. B pitch will be borderline.>

About 6-7 years ago there was a V12 Lambo engine out of an old vintage Espada on fleabay. I had wild dreams of putting it in a Shiada 17ft with a JE pump. I found a hull, and everything was right there in my reach. Then, we bought another house and it all slipped away.
"...whut the hell's that-there kinda engine in that thing boy?"
"Lamborghini Espada"
"Say whut? Izzat wonna them eye-taleeun jobs?"
"Yes, it's Italian."
"Shur makes a hell of a racket when ya get er goin.'"

Today's update
Just got the call from the blaster...the trailer frame is ready. I'm going to grab it and drop it here at my shop where it will go throught the paint booth and get a coat of satin black epoxy (because that is the color we are spraying this morning ).
I still have some welding and a few modifications to do but the epoxy will allow me to store it outdoors when I bring it home. I'll fab parts here and then bring them home for welding and finish. Final color coat will happen at home.

That 70's boat
My ADD is kicking in and I'm off on yet a third leg of the project, the boat exterior finish.
Overall the boat looks pretty good but at one point in its life it got a funky sea monster tattoo. Better yet, it's a depiction of the boat itself shooting some sort of laser beams at an attacking sea monster's various heads while being driven by the owner who fancies himself a sort Hulk Hogan character.
I took a quick shot at tattoo removal with 300 wet paper but it didn't really touch it. I need to do some research before I use anything more aggressive than that.
Check it out !!
