I Just purchased some new s4 calipers and they are differ from the calipers on my 91 s4, they have raised lettering part#20.4564.00.
Other than the raised Porsche emblem, are they the same or did porsche make a change from 87-91?

When you say "new" do you mean new to you (as in used?) You are describing pre-91 S4 Calipers. If so, they also use an older style dust seal, which I think may be NLA. (Can someone confirm or deny this?)

There were changes to the calipers in 87-90, during the 89 MY, detailed below. So, there is an early and late 89 caliper with differences in the piston, seals, dustboot and dustboot grooves in the caliper. Prior to 90, the lettering was raised, then went to decal.

So no one, anywhere, as found the proper parts to repair the earlier S4 calipers with the wiper seals?
So these calipers are essentially useless at the end of the life of the seals?

Just as a data point - my MY89 S4 has raised lettering and the later style of dust boots and seals. It left the factory in late '88 according to the letter I have from Porsche.

The pistons may have been updated to the new style. The calipers themselves isn't the issue, it's the pistons. You can update you're set for $400, that's $50 per piston.

The kits are available from Porsche at circa $50 per piston for the earlier 87/88 cars.
A new GTS "Big Black" caliper is $400. Later seal kits are circa $20 per piston.
IIRC the earlier Brembo seal kits are available from Paragon and superior to the Stoptech product.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?
