After not running my 16v for a few weeks while working AC refresh I had a couple that were quite loud initially and begin to quite down when the engine warms up. I will hopefully get it out for a drive this weekend to see if they will go completely quite as suggested earlier here. Also considering MMO or rislone. Are they equally good?

Put Marvel in the gas tank, Rislone in the crankcase. I've used both for over 50 years. Every car, motorcycle, or our Grand Alaskian, gets one or both. Always!

I'm not much of an "additive" kind of guy, but Swebco makes a product called "Swebco 502". I've used it for years on these vehicles when the lifters get varnished up and keep the checkball from seating inside the lifters. It is an amazing product. I've poured it into a noisy 928 and had it completely cure the issue, in 5 minutes. I used it quite a bit on 944 engines, when I still worked on them.

I'm sure it is mostly a varnish solvent...they suggest changing the oil pretty soon after you use the product, if you have a really dirty engine.

To close off the tread.....the Rislone seems to have done the trick.

I started the car late this aft and was greeted with zero lifter noise and only a faint ticking from the injectors.

Thx Herman and all for the recommendations.
