Default Projector Headlights ... revisited

So, over the years we've upgraded to:

- Porkensioner
- Kevlar TB
- Ed's new WP design
- Illuminated sills
- Illuminated and soft touch window switches with express up/down features
integrating the Hatch release switch relocation where it now belongs
- soon a revamped flush centre console
- soon a revamped and modern aa/heater controls
- soon carputer.

How many are still interested in Ken's old (I think 2004) project? I know I am. It retains the same 928/Miura look and we could trim mega lbs from up front.
To recap, here's a few vintage pics taken from the archives

Then cover everything with clear lexan to retain almost orig look

I would be interested when the lexan would be flush with the rest of the fenders. When going non-original, then do it nicely, is my opinion... I wouldn't like it to look like a 300ZX nose, nor a Fiat coupe style headlights with the humps. Just nice&smooth, also great for streamlining!

What if we could retain the current flip up style, but replace the H4's with projector headlights? Best of both worlds?

Along those lines, wasn't there someone who fitted 993 headlights on a 928? Or was that on a 968...

When I raised this thread from the dead I was hoping not to get into the previous discussions that occurs' every time this topic comes up about changing the "928 look". Hence, I was interested ONLY in the mod that almost retains the "928 look" as in Kens previous attempt.

No disrespect intended by this comment.

I'll need these as I have a car or 2 that will not have the flip ups.

Fred.... I'm with you on this look. Is that a photo-shopped picture or an actual mod? I'd be interested in doing something like this if the price was reasonable......after all, how expensive can Aston Martin headlight assemblies be? $600 each?.

If anyone is interested in making it fit, I have a piece of a destroyed fender available. The rest of the fender was toast but the headlight socket was unharmed, so I cut it off and saved it. If you want to reproduce the aston look, I'm definitely willing to donate it to the cause, as long as there is a write-up in it. It would be much easier to manipulate the smaller piece before you go to the trouble of trying to shoehorn it in. Below is the picture that I think everyone is talking about, hosted conveniently by me, where it will stay for at least three and a half years.

If you guys have a cleaver way of making the mold, I have tools for vacuume-molding plastic/acryl at my school... EDIT: Or perhaps, it doesn't need vacuume? It looks like you only need to make a steel plate with about the same curve as the fender, heat up the plastic sheet, and put it over to get the same form... Hmm... Think I'll try it out next week!

Btw, for projectors the HELLA 90mm high/low beams are good, if you want 4 projectors(two at each side). I've used them before at some other projects.

Hella 90mm are in the white car pics. 50mm fit better, as shown on the blue car.

If I were to do it again, I would probably use the new plastic body 60mm modules, which are 1/2 the price of the aluminum body 50s.

You can only really fit one lamp if you want to get decent low beam 'fill' out to sides. I fitted NOS ROW driving lights in the bumper for high beams.

Do any of the projectors have the hard e-code style upper cutoff in the beam pattern? Most retrofits I've seen either don't have them or are aimed to blind. Not talking 928's but other cars in general. Geometric reality includes the fact that lower-mounted lights will either strike the road closer to the car, or need to be aimed up with the risk of blinding other drivers when the car moves up and down a little. My creative solution might have either the lamps or a reflector/mirror in the original bucket. With a mirror, the lamps would be mounted rigid to the body underneath, pointing up. I'm all for using HID in the fog lights, but I use the aux main beams as flash-to-pass and other-driver-stupid alarms; HID doesn't start fast enough to be useful for those.

I think Ken answered your question. He made the mod many moons ago.

Thomas that Aston look also looks sharp. Is that photoshop or an actual piece of acrylic?

I think the time has come for this mod. There will lots of people interested.
