Exactly.

They eventually doubled their initial offer, after a bunch of "discussion".

Still half of the value.

Update:

Hacker contacted me and has told me that I can't list pieces for sale off of this car, on Rennlist, because it is not my vehicle.....seems mighty strange, to me. I'm not going to read through all the rule stuff and try to figure this out the details regarding this.

So, I called the owner and purchased the car from him....personally owned, by me....not company owned. No big deal....just need to follow the rules.

No prices, yet. Need to get the stuff off and see what it looks like...check the wear. Pretty hard to put a "blanket price" on a part, for me. If you get 10 parts with the same part number off of 10 cars...there is going to be a "range" of quality. Some of the pieces will be like new and some will be junk. Jim Bailey used to have a joke about that. When you get down to buying the last one at a dismantlers....you might not want it!

I think it is OK for people to send me PMs to "tell me" what they are interested in?

Note: I don't know crap about prices...so if you see something you might need...send me a PM and we will talk about it.[/COLOR]

Your explanation on pricing once you can check out condition makes complete sense, for parts you didn't list above.

I think the PM approach is poor form and not in the spirit of the rules on listing items for sale, but people do it all the time. Maybe it's just a pet peeve of mine.
Sorry you feel this way. There, I fixed it, for you. I don't see that it makes a bunch of difference. The introductory parts list was just a "tickler" to let people know what was there. Now it has prices....

Anyway, this is not something I normally do, so I don't have prices, on most things, yet. I'll post more prices, as it goes along. Wait until I price the hardware....

Those prices are what I have affectionately termed "Porsche-buck". One Porsche-buck = $1K

I wanted to make a comment here not about the car itself, but about what I believe is a surrounding issue to this event and how some people in the future MAY be able to avoid it. Now, I do understand that this vehicle was probably rear ended.

In a state with at-fault auto insurance, this means normally that the person who was HIT will probably, normally be dealing with the insurance of the person who HIT THEM. If I get hit, and it is clear (or even unclear) that it was the fault of the OTHER DRIVER, I do not call my own insurance company, and I never have. I call the insurance company of the OTHER DRIVER. As a side point, you want to make a statement to this company AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE - as stories change, and not normally for the best.

So back on track - this guy was hit by another person, so the company that he chose would not be involved unless he chose to make the claim and get paid for the damages by his OWN company, which is subrogration. Normally, this is not the best route unless the other company is immediately a problem or becomes one.

The story here seems that the insurance company, whether it was the 928 driver's or the driver's that hit him, did not agree with the HIGHER than normal value of this stroked and pristine 928. Why? The reason is that the car was outside the normal window of value for that car, with those miles, and that year.

How do you make another company pay you more for your car than its normal value because you spent 30,000 dollars extra on a bigger motor and other goodies? Proof. Does that make them do it? Not always, possibly rarely.

This is why I mentioned subrogation. If you take the time to properly value your car with your OWN insurance company, it could help you in the valuation with the offender's company. If that does not work, you simply stop speaking with the offender's company and make the claim again with your own. You will have to pay your deductible, but you will have a much better chance of getting the true value of the car.

Your own insurance company may or may not make this easy or possible for you. You may need to choose a different insurance company for your special, modified car so that you CAN get this sort of coverage, because if you do not, you may run into the unfortunate situation this gentleman has in this thread. Companies vary greatly in whether they will allow a "stated" or "agreed" value for your "exotic".

You will need to provide pictures, receipts, proof of value of work done labor-wise, and anything else that they require. But then, if you get smashed by some idiot who bought his insurance with the goal of being cheapest, such as:

mercury
progressive
freeway insurance
WAWAneesa
Gieco

Then you will probably have to use your own insurance and have them subrogate, as those other insurance companies will simply give you the lowest possible value on your special creation possible.

Additionally, you even want to do this when your car is stock but in exemplary condition for its age and even mileage. Pictures, proof of winning car shows, online or documented proof of higher valuations due to its condition.

If you spent 500,000 dollars building your dream home, would you allow the company to insure it for 250,000 because thats what it would normally cost? Of course not. Why do we allow this with our special cars?

I have some more info that I may drop in this post, but I wanted to get this published so people can comment and ask questions.

It looks as though we are talking about more than 10 or 15,000 in lost money due to this accident that was not re-reimbursed.

^^^^great advise. I don't have anything special other than in really good condition car for it's age. I will take another look at my State Farm policy and have a talk with my agent to avoid mistakes if I were to have an accident with her.
BC, Thank you for the good advise.
