So what did you do to your 928 Today......

Used my new liftbars from Ken for the first time today ..
Finally changed out the thermostat and rear seal. Also flushed out a bunch of the wrong kind of coolant (green)....ran a flush through it...rinsed about 100 times..then filled us up with 50/50 G-05 Zerex and distilled water. Also put 16 oz of water wetter in there (1 oz per quart-ish)...
Car looooved it. Went right up to temp...stayed just a hair above the white line...needle is still touching lower white line...pretty much stayed there the whole time no matter what I did.
Old rear seal had totally had it...was literally disintegrating as I was removing it...it had been there quite a while.
The old thermostat wasn't crudded up but the springs were totally mangled ...I can't even understand how that could have happened to the springs..but it looks like all the coils basically pushed flat against the lower surface instead of going down in a nice cone shape...the car wouldn't warm up hardly at all in winter, and it would go to uppper white line for no reason...sit there...then zoom, down...like it was possessed...
No more...steady as a rock...so glad I did this job. I am soaked in coolant, it was terribly messy and I couldn't get the driver's side block plug..it was just not possible for me ...got the passenger side and gave the car an extra half gallon of coolant to hopefully compensate for what I may not have been able to get out of it...maybe that means its a little more coolant in there than 50/50...seems to be fine.
That job is a freaking messy job...it being the first time...well it was much worse than it should have been. The easy part was the thermostat and rear seal...that part went like clock work...getting the old coolant out was a joke..I had no idea how much that stuff splatters EVERYWHERE when you remove the block plug...
Nice for me my waste water treatment facility will process the old antifreeze...I was able to pour it down the floor drain the basement...would have never guessed you could do that..and I couldn't get anyone to take the old stuff...went out on my wastewater treatment facility website and sure enough..I can pour it down the drain and they'll process it. I'm pretty sure I taste antifreeze every time I take a breath...I should probably get out of these clothes and take a shower...before I go blind or whatever happens...

It was a sunny day so I finally slid the new Alpine head unit into the sleeve in the console, connected the RCA cables, antenna cable, and added an additional ground wire to ensure no noise. Then installed passenger side console panel and went for a long drive. Would love to report that I could feel the difference with new upper ball joint boots and new grease...but at least I know they are imperious to dirt and grit. I can report the new transmission pan gasket and kick down pivot (w/Drei Bond applied) are not leaking -- for the first time in almost 4 years of ownership. Here's to small victories!

Took a mate out for his first ever drive in a 928. We drove down to a local watering hole around 30 minutes from home, while we were there, this fully restored Chev Impala parked alongside.
We had a "USA" car show this weekend in my home town, around 350 cars on display, including one of my favourites...

Removed old compressor, remaining A/C lines, and the expansion valve. I went ahead and removed the hood to allow access to the expansion valve. Also found the compressor wire not hooked up and must locate the other end of the wire.
Cant find the other end?
Hood removed
Lines ready to go to the AC shop

Put some 98 octane gas, and drove about 150km's on the highway!
Apart from the usual erratic idle when cold that disappears in a few minutes, she drives flawlessly, there's no better way to enjoy the sun and the 22º Celsius here today!
Now back to his “home” to rest...
Regards
