At lunch today, I was lifting up the car to look over some routing issues a fellow Rennlister had asked about. We have one lift in the shop that will lift a car by the wheels or the axles/crossmembers. Naturally I chose wheels, since there is nothing substantial underneath and the suspension doesn't need to be shaken down afterwards.
Pardon my French...but talk about a holy **** moment, I'm lower my car...when all at once (and this is how theses things usually happen) the car falls a few inches. The hoist repair guy had worked on this hoist last week and I was the first to use it. Luckily, the car fell on its way down, so it was only a few inches, from the wheel rack/carrier to the axle carrier portion of the lift. Under further inspection, the selection-rod that the guy replaced was not set in place correctly...and popped out...allowing the wheel portion of the lift to fall to the floor (2'), while my car dropped a few inches (8") and crashed into the axle lifting portion of the hoist. Talk about a sick feeling when I heard it drop...and looked back to see it resting on the steering rack, oil filter and some suspension parts.
The one side came about a 1/16 of an inch from hitting the rack piston, before resting on a suspension hard part and the other side rested on a lobe of the rack housing and oil filter. No leaks anywhere though, but I will get a new filter.
I'm just glad I wasn't underneath when the wheel holding portion of the lift let loose. I'd have been crushed like a bug...lol.
Took a couple floor jacks to lift the car enough to lower the hoist, which was hung up on the wheel rack portion of the lift, and then lower the car.
Anyhow, that was my excitement for the day.
Some days...I wonder why I ever gave up drinking...

Finally got around to fixing a weird and occasionally embarrassing problem with the horn. When making right turns, while pushing slightly forward on the steering wheel at 10 O'Clock position, the horn would beep. It usually would only happen once, kinda like it had to burp because it would rarely happen a second time until restarting car.
Firstly, the PO had a really small diameter Momo wheel when I got the car and I replaced it with a correct model year stock wheel. I was not going into virgin territory.
So I removed the beep pad and first thought the 3 nuts inside the retaining clips were too tall and close to the beep pad contacts so I ground the nut tops slightly. No change. The culprit turned out to be the copper finger contact on the stem. It was slightly raised and had lots of grit wear. I flattened the contact and hit the area with deoxit. No more beeps at 10 O'Clock.
Looks great, what did you use to replicate the pattern of the molded vinyl?
My work for the day, moved it from one parking place to the other. Went smoothly.

The process is a secret right now. I am considering a pod and dash restoration service.
I'll probably start a new thread once I have run the numbers.
