Sheet.... I could get that pig running in a couple hours!

Way to go SpeedRacer.... good lookin' parts, man. Love clean parts. The cad plating... argh. Going to be a sweet ride. I say we take over that whole industrial garage row and turn it into 928 silicon valley...

Well...id like to put on the new rotors..and pads too, and..theres always the unknown condition of the TB and cam gears..it all tracks straight/etc..but..im not going out to beat on whatever car I take.

Edit: May do rotors tomorrow...Im also going to spend tomorrow cleaning out crrrrrap from garage, gonna buy myself a lift..but I need to make serious space in a garage with a decade of crap in it.

I'll take your couple of hours challenge up next weekend!

Tonight ive gone thru what must be dozens and dozens and dozens of stuff from Roger, only missing injector clips (not a HUGE show stopper) and I have to go out and hunt down a 900 116 005 02 (clip) for the throttle quadrant (missing a little bitty box with that in it with the old bearings)...

With any luck, I -have- everything I need Mike..to start at 10a next Saturday, and be running by 3pm same day.

Odd..thats how long it takes to smoke chicken too..and beans..anyone else hungry?

I have a small batch of crap I forgot to get cleaned & plated that goes to the shop in Hayward Tuesday..and should be done Wed/Thurs at the latest.

I'll be at Alans Monday night I think..cleaning up the gasket and other sealing surfaces on the PC'd hardware, and pressing in the flappy bearings, and throttle quadrant bearing sets.

I was going to make some smartass comment about getting your rotors plated.. then I started wondering if its such a bad idea. The plating would wear off the pad contact surface immediately, and they'd continue to look good elsewhere.

Hmm...

There was a local discussion about plating on the rotors. As the plating peels (not 'wears') off the rotors it ends up embedded in the pad surface. Maybe just plate the non-friction surfaces? Or have the rotors trued with a very tiny lathe cut before installation.

I had these done in bright zinc after seeing Dave Anderson's (Sharkskin) plated rotors on his '78 last year. There was a phase during break-in where it looked like there was some peeling and minor pitting of the friction surface, but a few spirited drives (ask Dr. Bob about helping tuning...) cleaned them up nicely. $95 for plating the set. Dunno how much zinc is now embedded in my pads but it doesn't seem to affect braking.

Maybe the drilled rotors give the plating somewhere to go, as I haven't had this problem. I suppose you could sand the surface of the pad if it's a problem. Here's what mine looked like after bedding:

They still look good, though if you look close you can see where the plating melted:

That's not going to be a problem unless you're pushing pretty hard though...

Oh, on the subject of PC & plating ****...

Hmm...

ive had tons of customers of mine, try to return brake pads with plating polluting them up.

Now..tape off the brake area...high temp paint the rest....maybe.

Has anyone tried using Glyptal on the interior surfaces of the engine and valve covers. It is an old product, but really gives a nice smooth surface.

Today I picked up some paints..and dropped off a few missed items at the cad plater..another 2lbs of hardware.

BUT...I do -not- have the eyes for close detailed work anymore, surely..a pair of Dr Dean glasses are on my short list these days..but..

Primer down after sanding:
