Default My intake pieces at the PC shop..

All media blasted, 100% inside and out...and ya..wow..what a _shiiiiity_ casting Porsche accepted for this stuff...its amazing.

Now..I originally wanted what Dwayne used, Tiger-Drylac #049-90190...but that is now NLA.

Ive decided that 049-93240 was acceptable.

You did make sure to tell them what metal they're working with and to outgas it right?
And don't forget to clean the interior like you've never cleaned anything before.........

Yup..that was written down on the way in..will gas. Thats why they media cleaned it, instead of just tanking it clean..theyre aware.

And I was there before it was taped up..they spent huge effort cleaning. They have stacks of intakes for various builders. They use an ultrasonic cleaner to really work stuff off..and brush like hell.

I have heard of an abrasive foam people use to fire through intake to smooth things out like polishing. Anybody know a company that does this??

Yup..thats it.

That'd be costly..maybe next time around..and really..you'd wanna do supporting work in the heads as well.

wash these parts with car soap and hot water before installing them then air dry with compressed air,
this should remove any loose particles from the inside of the manifolds

One of my old co-workers had his 75 911 engine upgraded way back and extrude honed and it makes HUGE power.

As far as the casting of the covers-I was talking with Dave Smith at Smith Motorworks. He bought a brand new set for a customer from Porsche. He said new it looked as bad as the old set he had taken off. Terrible castings.

You are going to need to check and make sure that the ground contact areas are bare and that the bottom of the intake is bare/ flat for a good seal with the gaskets.

Also can not be said enough CLEAN/ WASH all of the debris out of the intake before installing.

Extrude hone isn't really foam. It's thick goo with sand in it. They pump it back and forth through the casting and it sands down the areas with the most restriction. Usually you would give them the intake and heads and it's all bolted together. They put a flange on where the throttle would go and another one on the intake valve where it enters the combustion chamber. It pushes back and forth across the entire intake tract. Then they move on to the next runner, and then the next, et cetera. I think it costs about $1000 to have a V8 done. And then you need new valve seats installed.
