Default Rear seat removal and rear seat belt upgrade

Hi guys,
I did some searches extensively in the above procedures and did not find what I needed. There were some supposedly good ones but the links are no longer valid. Since Dwayne is my hero and I want to do something similar but in a much smaller scale. Also, there are talks about achiving procedures for the owner's club site. I actually are stuck at a few steps so I am hoping that people will chime in to give me further instructions and I can document that along the way.
Mine is a 1987 with rear AC. As you can see, I have taken out a few panels guided by Dwayne's epic pictorials.

so I am using the driver's side to do this. First I removed the rear seat lower cushions by carefully yanking them.

After the cushions are removed. There you see a lot of glue on the back and on the bottom. You then remove the lower outer corner screw of the seatbelt cover. There is another screw at the rear top surface of the seatbelt cover.
There are 2 screws that also needed to be removed on the rear of the carpet behind the seatback.

I've done this a couple of times - about to do it a third, to fit 3-point rear belts in my red 87.

I'll take pictures, but its a black interior, so won't come out as visibly as yours

The basic process:

1. Remove rear seat bases
2. Remove rear center console
3. Unbolt seat-backs (and un-screw the screws holding the carpet on them to the hatch floor)
4. Remove side bolster where the rear belt comes out from the retractor
5. Unbolt retractor and put the new one in
6. Cut + shaped hole in the rear quarter panel above the window, where the bolt goes for the top of the belt.
7. Put the belt through the side bolster.
8. Fit bolt and correct spacers etc. into the top hole.
9. Test the belt to make sure there's no twists in it - rebolt if necessary until you're happy
10. Put all the panels in 1-4 back in reverse order
11. Fit child seat and say "nya nya nya nya nyaaaaa" to your previously disapproving partner

I'm not sure how the rear-air affects the process - none of my cars has it, but I vaguely recall pictures showing the console can be removed leaving just the evaporator, to expose the seat-back bolts you need to get at?

After the 2 screws are removed, you can find the top allen bolt at the leather cut-out. At this point, you can remove the 1 allen bolt on the inner side seat bracket and the 2 allen bolts at the outer seat bracket.

So today I only got so far since I am stuck at the inner bracket. I removed one allen bolt and it is not released. But I could not find the other bolt. So I have to remove the rear AC console?
I also get stuck on the seatbelt cover right above the buckle resting trim. I know that there is a metal clip at the lower/forward but I could not release the seatbelt cover.

Try the cap screws holding the outer seat back pivot (visible when the seat back is folded forward, in a pic above). These bolts go through the cover....Watch for the nylon pivots on the inboard side to have disintegrated.

Also, sheet metal hooks attached to the piece you want to remove.

For the seat back, lay it flat. Then actuate the lever and push it down past the flat position. That gives access to the other allen.

The seat back should be removable without removing the center console. The key is to unbolt the outside pivot, leave the inside.

I removed the 2 cap screws on the outer seat bracket/pivot without any problem. It is the inner pivot/bracket that I could not release. There is only ONE cap screw on top of the bracket visible. I removed that screw but the bracket would not budge.

Sorry, my 83 must be different - it only has bolts at one end. Once those are undone on mine, I held the seat back close to vertical, pivotted the seat back around the OTHER end (rotated the outer bracket forward, and in towards car centre), and then the inner shaft slid out of its mounting hole. This inner end had a collapsed nylon bearing/bush, that I had to replace or re-assemble, dont remember clearly what I did now.

This is very timely as I need to pull the rear seats on my '87. Thanks for posting.

Chris, I removed both bolts on the outer pivot/bracket without any problem. You are saying that I did not have to remove the inside pivot/bracket?
There is one bolt on the inner bracket/pivot that I can see and I unbolted it. It did not budge.

I found a picture of a removed rear seat. Apparently, the second allen bolt at the inner pivot/bracket is hidden by the rear AC console. I have also tried to slide the seat out of the inner pivot as Chris seemed to have indicated but no yield. It does look like it would come out since I did not see any C-clip. But no luck. Looks like I have to take out the AC console as Hilton stated. I have no clue how to do it.
