Default Rear AC console removal

Gents,

I need to remove the top section of the rear AC console to reglue the vinyl that has come undone due to age and heat. Has any one done this before?
What is the best way to remove the top section containing the vents?.

Thanks in advance
Rich

Wow, it's been a couple of years but I'll give it a try.

First remove the air grills, I think they just pull up. then there are four (I think) screws that hold the plastic housing on. After that you should have full access to the vynl.

There are two screws at the very back of the vents, that are somewhat hidden under the trunk carpet. Remove those first.

Then lift the vent piece up a bit. I belive it was this piee that has some weird shaped metal tongues on its other end. You might have to wiggle the piece a little to get those tongues to slide out.

Then you can remove the other piece with the adjustable vents. Basically, it's self explanatory from there.

Nicole,

Excellent.
So I start from the trunk side and remove the screws at the base under the carpet. Then the entire section lifts out with the vents intact?
I need to remove the top half of the console to reglue the vinyl not just the plastic vents.

That sounds too easy for a 928 repair!

Hey Rich, it's real easy. I did it a few months back.

Ok Bill,

great-will start that repair ASAP. Warning though- I tend to fix things until they are broke!

As long as you don't go broke in the process...

What I described just allows you to remove the vent piece in the back. Once you have that off you'll see how the other vent piece with the four adjustable vents is attached. Remove those next. Then you can see the screws for the top of the console.

You can't lift off the upper console part without removing the vents first.
