14 Pin Connector. Can it be replaced?
My son and I are finding all kinds of fun things. NOT!
The 14 pin connector up front, is not looking good!
Can this be replace?
If so, degree of difficulty?
Thanks

Yes, it's a bit of a PITA. I was able to get both halves used at 928 Int'l for one of my back-burner projects. You'll have to desolder the pins and resolder them to the wire ends. If you heat the pins individually with a torch(separated from the plastic block, of course) then pick them up with needle nose pliers and tap them on a hard surface most of the solder comes out. If you get used connectors practice freeing the pins from the cut harness before you go to work on your good harness.

If the pins are in bad shape then it is likely the wiring it corroded as well.
I went through this on my '81 and re-wired the engine side of the harness using off-the-shelf stuff. Worked great.

Mine was cracked and broken in the Gt. I just removed one from my parts car and transferred each wire over carefully. No need to unsolder and resolder the pins.

Roger@928srus.com sells the complete connector,
Both upper and lower with the male and female pins,
this way you can put fresh housings in

Yeah,
we have corroded lines, cracked and missing "jacketing" on the wires too.
So, I'm to try to re-attach the connector? Not much slack in the wires either.
or is this to be a complete replacement?

To repair the ends you may have to cut the wires back, splice new wire in(use solder, not crimp connectors) and heat-shrink them. The corroded portion of the wire won't solder worth a damn. When you start cutting the wires back, you may find that the insulation is crumbly deep into the loom. If this is the case then you're going to have to make a call, rebuild or replace the harness. Otherwise, you're going to end up with anything from gauge gremlins to melted harness/electrical fire.
