My neighbor, the electrician, came home just after my last post, so I asked him to come over and have a look. It took him about 30 seconds to see that I had the switch wired incorrectly. It is not intuitive, so I got it wrong. The thing looks like two wires would come in the bottom and two out the top. Nope! The power comes in on one side and out the other side. Got it rewired correctly and turned it on and instant heat.

Then I remembered that I have a couple of small thing left to do on the form, so I quit for today. I'm going to finish up the form in the morning and the blow for sure. I may still need to figure out how to get the form on and off the top of the oven because it is getting kind of heavy. Not too bad, but it is bulky. I'm think of rigging a block and tackle to it and hang it from my garage door track.

More on this tomorrow.

Jerry

GREAT news about the simplicity of the short. Glad that's all it was. Happy INDEPENCE DAY to you, and thanks again for all you are doing.

Well, I couldn't wait until tomorrow, so I went out and finished up the form after supper and blew the first prototype. Here are some pictures.

Tomorrow I will cut it up and trim it and then see how close it comes to fitting.

Enjoy.

You're a perfectionist and an artist Jerry ... beautiful It looks so good it'll be a pity to hide it in a wheel well.

The most amazing thing about this project at this point is that the process that I developed actually works. I have only done something loosely like this in the past once. Intuitive engineering may be everything it is cracked up to be.

Now the test is going to be to see if the form fits, or even comes close. The form will not be too difficult to do over even if I have to make another one from scratch. Knowing that the process works makes doing the other development so much easier, at least from a mental standpoint.

Tomorrow I am going to trim this prototype out and then see how close it comes in one of my cars. I'll post a few pictures of the trimming process so that you can see how little of this plastic will likely be left. I think about 75 percent of what you see here is going to be waste.

And, thank you Jim and Sue. I was at Friday Harbor once in my Navion Airplane. I grew a lot of moss up there when I was in the Air Force at McChord AFB during the Viet Nam War. I was up in Federal Way last July 4th for a few days spending some time with some of my old AF buddies. I love your area.

Woo-hoo!!!

Please consider some space for sound deadening. You don't want the hard plastic to touch the body without some cushioning, or you'll hear every drop of water that splashes against it.

The 91 and later fender liners have thick foam rubber glued around their tops. I think there should be some sort of sound deadening all around.

Good thought Nicole.
Instead of foam glued on ... I'm thinking a spray on sound deadener, sold by one of the specialist acoustic mat dealers, would be an improvement acoustically; and would be likely to provide some impact absorption as well.
I seem to recall one of them sells a spray on acoustic material, along with heat shielding and acoustic mat.

Looks GREAT Jerry, can't wait to see the finished item, and hear how it fits.

Hi Nicole, and all. In response, I would like to point out that in the first two pictures above, the area shown with the angular point on the end is the part that will end up being mounted directly to the inside of the wheel well along the actual frame rail that has the serpant-like squiggle formed in it. That is where the GTS liners are mounted with three holes. Then above you can see that I have formed the liner out by about a half inch to allow space for sound deadening between the liner and the inner car body.

I am anticipating using something like a foil-backed felt about half inch thick, later. If that seems to work I will perhaps offer that as an option for those who do not want to do their own sound deadening, as seems to be the direction most will desire.

I tried to make the form so that the sound deadening will be able to cover most of the surface of this inner half of the whole liner, and probably not any on the outer half, although there will be space on that half also. I just think that the sound deadening material will not be very effective out there.

Great job Jerry! I can hardly wait for mine. First off I want mine insulated with sound deadner, but I will most likely do it myself. As far as the liner touching the sheet metal of the body I don't think that's an issue at all. The front WW liners are screwed drirectly to the body with no insulation and we don't hear every drop of water hitting them. Just get er done, please!!!
