Here are a few pictures of the first trim and rough fit of the left inner half of the first liner. I can see that I have a little work to do with the form, but not much. Then I may want to put some doubler material on the liners in a few places so the mounting will not be too flexible.

These liner halves formed out pretty thin is some areas. One thought is that I may go up to eighth inch material rather than the three thirty-seconds I used here. Or maybe not; we'll see.

I had to remove the corner brace on the seft rear and its two mounting tabs in order to get this linerto fit. I guess I'll have to develop some of the mounting program in order to see if that is going to be necessary on all the earlier cars. The other alternative is to make a new form that is about half inch shorter, but I don't know which will be easier, doing that or making some new kind of brace with tabs that will work with this the way it is. I like the shape now because it is going to lend itself well to forming the outer half.

The wide flange that you see around the perimeter of this liner half is going to be used in places for mounting points. Where it is not used for that I will grind it down to about half inch.

Yes, GTS has wider rear fenders so the will be too big for our cars.

NO, NO, NO! This liner half will be universal for the GTS cars AND for the earlier cars. It is only the outer half that is going to have to be made it two different versions. Both of those version outer halves will work with this universal common inner half.

Actually I think the GTS wheel well is only wider at the top and tapering up from about the top of the plastic rocker trim on the S4 and later cars, but it is the same width up to that point. The GTS wheel opening is also a little rounder and about one inch taller than all the earlier cars.

After I got the first blow trimmed and sort of fit, I could see where the form needs to be tweeked a little. Rather that blow another pair, I spent what I had of the afternoon working the form over a little. There are some small corners in this first try that I would like to have more plastic, so I fixed the form to accomodate that and to smooth out some of the form lines.

In spite of all of my careful measurements and calculations about just how deep to make this inner half it just seems to me that it is too deep. I suppose that with the wider GTS wells the upper half will turn out to be just about as wide at the top as this inner half, especially with the plan of about an inch and a half of overlap.

Nevertheless, I decided, just on the feel of it to narrow the width (or depth) of the inner half and I have taken the form partly apart and taken out three quarters of an inch of depth. That is actually width in respect to the car, but it will not be forming quite so deeply next time. I also, at the suggestion of my plastic guy, have rigged up a kind of difuser to cut down on the radiated heat in the center of the oven hoping that I get less heat there and more out around the perimeter. We will see how that works on the next Blow, probably tomorrow afternoon late.

Happy Fourth to all of you.

Almost none. The form is really only something to limit the places that the blown heated soft plastic sheet cannot go. It is not a mold like you might imagine with figerglass.

Think of blowing a bubble. Then think of blowing a bubble with some limitations on its shape that make it less than a natural sphere. That is what I am doing with the plastic sheet in this process. Simple as that. I am going to consider the form proprietary basically because it is so simple that it can be knocked off ***** nilly.

As long as it is proiprietary, you all will be able to think of me as a genius rather than the dolt that I probably really am.

Jerry,
Thanks for all the hard work, innovation and thought you have put into this and the other projects you have done!

I still need to measure the wheel well of my Strosek to see how it compares to a GTS.

Happy 4th of July!

Hi Glenn. I have not given up on the diea of making liners that will adapt to the Strosek modification. I am sure that the inner half of this liner will work with just about any shape of outer wheel well design. Just what we will need to know about the Strosek wheel opening is spacing and shape from the original body work and that is going to be the deciding factor.

When you get right down to it, the outer half of these liners is going to be just about the same difficulty to develop for the GTS, the earlier cars, or anything else. The problem for the Strosek is trying to determine just how the shape relates to anything else such as the S4, which is what I have to design from, and how the shape differs if both width and shape of wheel opening.

I am open to further development for the strosek, but will be developing the GTS and earlier car liners first. Much of what I do for these will be a benefit to the development of others, I think.
