Project REAR WW LINER - GTS & Others

I devoted most of Saturday to the rework of the form for the outer half of the Liners to accomodate the changes I discovered were needed when I took the porject to Spring Fling and tried to fit the liners in Tony's GTS. I was dismayed to see how far off I was with the outer half of the Liners at that point.
You all will recall that the inner half of these new liners will be common to all of the cars that they might end up being available for and that form is pretty well finalized. However, I keep thinking that I might want to make some further refinement to the little hump I am forming in the rear of the right inner half to fit around the fuel lines in that area. I'm not sure at this point if I have that part just right or not. I'll fit the last version of these in my GTS4 this week and then decide if I need to do any more with that form or not.
I had found that the form for the outer half fit fairly well in the front almost halfway but that it was about an inch and a quarter off in the rear. I also found that the form for the wheel opening arch was still a little low, mostly in the rear area. And, I found that the front bottom point was a little short of the actual bottom of the well. It took most of the day Saturday, but I think I have adjusted for all three of the changes needed.
Now I will need to blow a pair of the outer pieces and see if they are going to fit, yet.
I also discovered at S. F. that the brackets for the GTS were off quite a bit. I did a lot of trimming on those in Texas, but will have to rework the patterns to see if I can get them correct. That will come with putting the inner half of the liners in my car. Soon.

Burning Brakes
Jerry , Keep going , now that I have solved the drone problem with my high flow exhaust . I can hear a lot of tire noise with missing liners on my 91GT . And seeing the high quality products you have produced , I am looking forward to your new liners.

For those that have a better solution than mine the liners will be available without sound material, and that is why it will be an option with the liners.

There will of course be a version for the S4 and GT cars as well. I could have and was in fact working up the S4 version first with the expectaqtion of then somehow extrapolating into the GTS version. However, to some extent the GTS version kind of dictates back into the S4 and earlier form for some of the fit, in order for the inner half of the liners to become universal, that is, the same for all versions, at least in the basic form, but not in all the mounting.
Anyway, I have felt compelled to finalize the GTS version first and then, to the extent necessary, work back through the model years. I suppose I will end up having to buy a few more 928s in order to be certain about the fit in the cars before S4.
So, what I have to do now is refine the outer form for the GTS version and that will involve incorporating what i learned with Tony's car. I'm going to fit those liners in my GTS4 and see if what I found with Tony's is common to mine, then make the changes in the GTS outer form and try again. I hope I don't have to do this more than about twice before I have the GTS outer half zeroed in. Then that will also be ground zero for the S4 and earlier versions, at least from the plastic rocker panel line and down. Above that line is where the GTS and others differ, I think.

I have the inner half of the left rear WW Liner very well fit and with the mounting brackets for it devised and, I think, finalized. I restarted the same for the left rear and found that the shape of the liner I had made that fits my S4s and that fit both Herman's and Tony's GTS, does not fit the GTS4 that is now mine.
The fit issue has to do with the rear inner area that must be formed to fit around or allow for the fuel lines that come from the bottom of the tank and go upward above the frame. I think I am lucky to have doscovered this at this point so that I can adjust the form to allow for this difference in the cars rather than hving discovered it when some one of you discovered it in the field.
There is also another kind of tight area in the form for the inner halves that I think I will adjust for, since I have to work it over again anyway, and that will be a help when I get to putting some sound material on.
I am devoting some of my afternoons and evenings to getting this project done and still have this weekend and next plus the fourth of July, so I am hoping to meet most of my goal, for OCIC with something kind of final.

I also found that some of the adjustment that I had put into the form for the outer halves needed to come back out. When we were trying to fit these liners in Tony's car at Spring Fling I found that the rear of the liners, as they are designed to mate up, and as I had drilled them for clipping together, were off by well over an inch.
I had adjusted for that in the form, but after I got the inner half pretty well finalized, I discovered that the error, or most of it , was not in the form but apparently in the mounting bracket which, at the top, was holding the inner half too far outboard so that the outer half did not have enough room to fit.
So, I took most of the correction back out of the form, and redesigned the bracket.
Another aspect of the lack of fit at Tony's had to do with the match-up of the wheel arch of the liner with the car. The outer half of the liner was sort of hanging down a little so the the "slip was showing" so to say. So, I also raised that edge in the form by about half inch toward to rear and quarter inch in front. I left that correction in.
As soon as I have the inner halves both finalized I'll double check the form for the outer halves with some measurements and then bow a pair of those and see how close I am, again.

For the S4 and GT guys, and hopefully for all the others at some point in the near future, I expect that the only change that will be needed to have these finalized is to change the form component for the shape and position of the wheel arch and adjust the mounting brackets some of which are different from the GTS version.
I also still have to devise some way to have a bracket in the upper rear of the right well to hole these brackets in the S4s and early GT. Fortunately the 91 S4 and GT foreward have the mounting points for these liners in the top of the well, so the GTS top brackets will work for them. Before 91 they did not have these points, so "those ones" are the ones in need of something; and there is very little in that part of those wheel wells that something can be anchored to. I'll keep working on that.

And then of course, for the cars down under, because of the change in Coriolis and the RHD phenomenon I'll have to make a nearly complete set of forms in the reverse.
Just kidding.

Now that I think about it, again, I wonder why they/you are not the ones on the top side and all of us on the north side are down under?

Couple of pictures
Here is a picture of the little flat bracket I made to solve a couple of mounting location issues I have been dealing with. I finally concluded that all I needed to do was make a little bracket like this and simply move the mounting points to better locations with it.
The other picture shows how I have had to cut the right liner inner half, both foreward and upward, in order to clear the fuel lines. I'll be using this cut-up liner half as a pattern to refabricate that part of the form for the additional clearance.
