As is all so often the case in life, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

I'm guessing that not everyone is going to want to pay for all that "bling" when all they want is a stock cam gear replacement. But it is something to consider.

So ... I stopped by the local dealer looking for cam gears (85-95). According to the Porsche computer inventory, there are 3 in Ontario California and approx 110 back in Germany.
Cost here (Canada) is approx $613 each. But Porsche Canada has to buy from Porsche USA .... so I expect a bit cheaper in the US
So ... according to Porsche, what shortage??
Cheers

The point may well be that this adjustment system looks easier and quicker. Also you will replace only the the worn wheel not the hub once the system is updated.
The stock system is time consuming and difficult to measure, this appears to offer a more precise system that is easier to manipulate. Also I suppose there is less chance of the hub moving on you as you adjust the timing. Just tossing this into the mix.
Cheers Greg
The replacement should keep Ken's tool "enabled", though!
Ours is already adjustable, but that might be nice for someone that is doing a lot of changes quickly...like on the dyno. Of course, for those people, Porken makes a little tool that does this.

I've already talked to David Lindsey about a 928 version, he's interested I just need to send him some gears to model off of:

Quick recap to save lots of reading.
Original part 928 105 530 01 became NLA 10/10.
OEM price (928sRus price) from the manufacturer MWU was $130 from Porsche direct $212.
Porsche announced via their monthly price list 12/1/10 a new part number 928 105 530 04 and the price increased from $212 to $392.60.
I suspect a change of manufacturer as well as price gouging by Porsche.
My goal is to maintain the price as it was circa $130.

When I posted that a couple of days ago, that "used inspected" part wasn't included in the description.
The price has gone from $50 to $85 since then, too. Supply and demand in action.
I just dug up a couple of lightly used ones (I looked at them and they appeared to be in very good shape, so they are officially "used inspected" ) during a basement cleanup over the weekend. Hmmm...

We are a recycler, but we try and not recycle junk. We've had our first return on these cam gears already because "the paint was worn off". Anyone not happy with stuff is welcome to return it, no sweat.

Surface hardening?. If that's the case it wasn't hard enough or deep enough and they are all bad used, every one of them I've ever seen has wear from the belt to one degree or another. This cogged belt setup isn't specific to 928's, nearly everything uses them, a little shining wear isn't usually cause for alarm as long as the gears aren't eaten into. That is usually a sign of something else wrong when it happens, or you have many many hundreds of K's on it. I'm open to the idea of the 928 being "different" though, and as I said returns are no issue.
