lol, back a bit on topic: yeah I can support a WBO2 sensor, the coding required for that will be minimal. I will add an option in the ECU for normal NBO2 sensor or WBO2 sensor. (actually initially I coded it for a wide band sensor, but removed the code for the stock sensor. Ill just add that back in and have a selectable option)

Yeah ill sort out all the stuff in august, the 6th is my lovely 7 hour exam, and the 7th i have oral exam also. So please be patient and I will get get the stuff done after that

John, it's an AutoMeter Phantom 5779 with a 5 wire Os sensor, red, white, grey, black and yellow. I also have the NB one, 5775 but have been convinced to go WB. The gauge that came with the kit is Nordskog NB which is a good match for the original gauges but very hard to read at night and of course, it dives about all over the place.
I'm not totally against welding in the supplied bung for an extra sensor, it would be nice not to have to if it's not necessary.
I went for the Autometer Phantom because I want a Vac/Boost gauge so I can see the transition and I want the smallest scale I can get as the boost is only 5PSI, this is only up to 15PSI, so 0-5 you can actually see the needle move. I've bought the matching clock and AFR [now 2 AFRs] so the set of gauges match and don't look messy.

Slightly OT, but something what I have learned from WBO2 sensors...

Techedge is also offering Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor together with older 4.2 version.
The major advantage of new 4.9 version is that it's using reference pumping current instead of reference air.
This should make the sensor more reliable and no need to calibrate it time_after_time anymore.

http://www.ecotrons.com/Bosch%20LSU%...20sensors.html

You can also upgrade your exsiting 2JX WBO2 unit to use 4.9 version, by changing the dip switch position inside the unit, loading 4.9 version code and replacing the cable connector to old sensor cable harness.
The old connector which fits to 4.2 sensor connector does have calibration resistor, which is not needed with 4.9 sensor anymore. If your existing 4.2 version sensor fails, I would suggest upgrading to 4.9 version.

http://wbo2.com/2j/default.htm#rescue

The positioning and usage of the sensor is also important factor to extend the life and keeping it accurate. Wonder how many of us is having WBO2 correctly installed...

This is also interesting to note.

Reasons for Inaccurate Lambda Readings – Exhaust Back Pressure

Wideband Lambda sensors primarily count oxygen atom numbers through measuring the oxygen ion current within
the molten electrolyte of the sensor’s pump cell. The exhaust gas pressure affects this oxygen ion current – more
pressure means more atoms per unit volume and a higher current at the same Lambda. At a higher exhaust gas
pressure
a rich reading will appear richer than it really is, and …
a lean reading will appear leaner than it really is.
This is the main reason you should position the sensor after the turbo where exhaust back-pressure is lowest.

Yay! Finally an update!

My exam is over and I have made good progress the past two weeks!

I finished the interrupt driven code. That is working 100%

The USB code is working 100%, no more delays when using the USB

The microchip USB bootloader has been fixed and is working 100% so firmware can be updated via USB.

As far as I can physically test the unit without a running car everything is working 100%

So what needs to be done?

Essentially nothing, just testing on a car.

I am finalising Prototype 4 and 5 so I can send them off to the people who volunteered to help test.

I am not completely 100% happy with my user interface and the "accelerator jet" coding and will most probably modify that in the coming week, just so that I am satisified.

So I am happy to announce that the prototyping is nearing the ending phase!

I will be able to test the complete unit on my car at the end of september. Maybe a bit sooner, depends on a few factors. But hopefully by then I will have shipped the remaining two prototypes to other people for testing.

After I have changed the interface so that I am happy I will start the layout of the revised version of the boards. These revisions will include support for the 25 pin connectors.

To the people who want to use a different connector I have found a suitable alternative from Samtech that I can bundle along with the unit (the male and female connectors) to anyone who wants to replace that also.

I will keep everyone updated as I move along the final stages of this project.

Yay! Time for another update!

I have been working a lot on the system and I believed it is finished!
(in the sense need now actual testing)

Attached are a few photos
1: The test unit (prototype 2) currently used in my porsche connected to my test equipment
2: All 5 prototypes (prototype 4 and 5 need processor soldered on - im doing final testing to make sure I dont mess up the processor)
3: My "bed of nails" test equipment, this simulates the engine
4: Prototype 3 connected all nice and clean to the test equipment

And here are a few youtube videos

1: How the firmware updates work (Not shown in the video is you need to press the button on the computer while switching on ignition to go into firmware update mode - I could not hold camera and do that at same time)

2: Prototype 2 testing (The annoying buzzing sound is the engine simulator signal connected to speaker so I can hear whats going on)

3: Prototype 3 test, more complete testing

My parents came and visited me, thats why I was able to work on my unit that is in my car at the moment.

They are returning and will test the unit in a week or so - I will get a video of how that works.

In the meantime I have already started the revision 2 of the PCB, fixing a few stuff and adding better analog signal management.

I am able to dedicate a lot more time now on the system and will leave updates as I go along.

To the people waiting to test the other prototypes, I am going to put on the processors and do the final testing soon, and will contact you with more information.

My LH is in need of a rebuild, so I can test if need be. It may be better to go this route than having LH refurbished. Great work!
