It's your car and you are FREE to do with it as you please. When mythbuster cut one open to flip front to rear they get less complaints then you swapping the engine forvanother one.

If i had my way i would drive a 1986 S with a S4 rear bumper and GTS mirrors. To bad my wife does not agree (to any third car being purchased).

Why don't you just sell the GTS and buy a supercharged 928? With the 2.2 gearing you will get 25mpg highway and have 400+rwhp. You will 1) spend much less money, 2) get the power you want much faster and 3) not have to cut up a GTS so the purists will be happy. Not sure Pizza sold his car yet, and it looked pretty damn great...

Isn't it helpful to be a little whacked to own these cars ? $ Money always enters into the equation, at least it does with us. We don't have unlimited funds, but we do have enough to get this 928 done the way we want. It can be as simple as this, sell the GTS motor for $ 10,000, do the conversion for approx $ 14,000. If the GTS motor does not sell, keep it in the car ,and don't do the conversion. I would prefer the conversion, but we could easily live with the stock GTS motor. The 928 is currently at Larry's Paint & Body for a some deleting and paint apart paint job. After that, it's going 30 miles SE to Paul & Linda Champagnes business in mid Dec for some inteiror pieces. BTW-My wife Tambra & I (OK-mostly me) are having a blast with these modifications. T&T

I'm assuming that he picked up this car at an S4 price, so he is treating it like an S4. No one who paid the full retail price of a low mileage GTS would be going down this path unless money was truly no object. That doesn't appear to be the case here.

We have already done a rear A/C delete, rear seat delete and installed a new custom built cabinet in its place, aftermarket sound system, etc. Things that are planned while in for paint & body: rear wiper delete, sunroof delete, (need even more headroom, I am 6'3" tall) side marker delete, door strip delete, door lock delete, front headlight washer delete, fixed imperfections here & there, paint 928 a custom color that we have already selected. I think we are already way beyond what the so called purists would want for their cars. So kick back, enjoy the ride or just go to the next thread and advise someone else on what to do, or not to do with there car. We are posting so some can enjoy, including my wife Tambra & I. T

Perceived cost of swap
Cost of Chevy swap = $12k
Cost of GTS stroker = $30k (or more as noted earlier in this thread)

Acutual cost of Chevy swap
Est. Value of GTS ~ $30k to $45k (or more depending on mileage)
Value after Chevy swap ~ $10k to $15k (me thinks but may be wrong)
Loss in value after Chevy swap = $20k to $35k
Total Cost of Swap = $32k to $47k

Please note: this assumes no loss as a result of modifying the original GTS engine...which likely isn't correct. However, I'm pretty sure a GB stroker would command a better re-sale than a Chevy conversion...just my opionion though...and I'm pretty sure $30k for a GB stroker is optimistic.

Therefore...
Chevy swap cost more than a stroker by $2k to $15k, or more, not accounting for maintanance which might equalize it or favor the Chevy swap...but not by much. Not judging, just saying if you're doing it to gain hp/$ it might not be a rational decision in the long term.

I'm pretty sure the best value would occur if you were to keep the GTS engine and re-install prior to re-sale...assuming you're doing the work yourself (i.e. $12k + install + re-conversion - re-sale of Chevy engine after the fact - reduced maintanance costs).

Good luck regardless.

Cheers,

Doug

Sounds like a designer's signature project, basically rolling advertising, and a business tax deduction, so the more that changes, the better, so long as sketches (with the wife's name / a designer, from an earlier post) are kept in the file.

It definitely has the potential to seed conversation like all advertising does. This thread itself is practice for the show conversations

Should be a masterpiece if you have the right folks do the work, really.
Chevrolet engine is FAR superior for generating buzz and drawing crowds , too.

I also believe that engine has the potential so sell for near that price. One offer was already made right here, probably more higher in the background. If the engine goes to france, an otherwise basket-case GTS can live. Makes sense.

All the best to you. Hope it works.

My only real criticism is the GTS part. Most who are going to buy whatever mods your business is advertising can't likely differentiate between Porsche models, let alone the S4 vs GTS. So a work of art goes down in the process. Not really a big deal. But I'm not going to commend that part of the plan.

It wouldn't take any more $$$$ than your asking for that motor to actually get that kind of power. But I'm all for conversions, so go for it and good luck!

What oil would you recommend for them to use in their swapped engine?

Will it require high zinc?
