Default Form & Function. Interior mods 94 928 GTS

Just purchased this beauty and it's time to start on the interior mods. Removed the 17 year old carpet removed...not easy, rear seat & rear A/C delete. RAAMat sound deadining materials installed throughout. Like many others, building a custom cabinet in it's place for extra storage and aesthetics. OEM front seats, radio, etc, also removed. Love black interiors, so that will be the base carpet & color we are running with. Going to custom fabricate some brushed aluminum trim pieces myself along with some coated cable trim here & there to kick it up a notch. Mounted a double din JVC Head unit with built in EQ, DVD bypass & I-Pod ready. Notice that I mounted the front A/C control panel, door lock & A/C on-off switch panel below the double din unit. A little flip action there. Focal 3ways in the front doors powered by a custom skinned 2 way Kicker amp. 10" Boston Acoustics sub to be mounted behind pass side in almost ready cabinet, powered by a Kicker Mono amp-also custom skinned. T&T

Let Paul Champagne make those seats look nice and that will be a nice upgrade to keep you head from hitting the headliner. They just do not look right in a GTS in my view, but to each his own.

I like the other work you have done on the console. Several others have done that and there is a hell of a system (carputer) being developed right here and right now! Gonna be AWESOME when it is done!

Have you looked at Sterling's (he is up in Dallas and owns the Congac colored and highly modified S4) rear seat delete? VERY NICELY DONE! Looks damn near stock if you didn't know better!

Form & Function??? If I were going to do mods like that, I think I would've started with an early car... I can't watch.

Looking good. Looks like it will be a fun project and a sweet ride when you are done.

Tony,

the GTS is the RARE CLASSIC since only about 400 were EVER imported (that is why folks here tend to frown on modifying them) so it is actually the older "classic" as you call it that is better for modifying because there are SO MANY more of them!

It is your car, make it the way you like it! If you are not planning on keeping it for the long term I'd be sure to hold on to all the original parts and most buyers of GTS's want them stock not chopped.

There are few seats (in fact I have never sat in one) that are more comfortable than a stock 928 seat... Been in many Ferrari's and their seats SUCK by comparison, especially those in the 550 and 575 for some reason. The 360 and 430 seats are not bad, but still not anything like a 928 seat. The Bentley CGT has a pretty nice seat as does the Maser GT...

Thanks JP for the positive words. The 80 Euro I owned 15 years ago had no sunroof and my height was not an issue. Also the seats were the opt-art cloth and were very comfortable. I personally do not like to sit in leather seating, cold in the winter, hot & sticky in the summer, granted it does look great. We do plan on keeping this car for a long time and want to customize it for a better fit and what we like aesthetically pleasing to our eyes.

I agree. Even the massage seats in my mother's Mercedes SL55 aren't nearly as comfortable as the 928 seats...IMO.

As said, your car your money but the Corbeau seats must be an acquired taste, just not sure which of us needs to acquire some. I do like the double DIN fitting though, allows the use of so many modern units for SatNav, DVDS etc.

Im glad Im not the first person to say this..... I too wish you were doing this to a non GTS. I was going to say, make sure that everything youve done can be UNDONE! Youve just toasted the resale value on your car by a third I'd guess.

James, no way though do you get to have a negative opinion (which in this case we share) yet take such offense when I say a project of yours was not what I had hoped for. That doesn't make much sense to me.

Totally different issue Ryan...you were completely offensive and insensitive to everyone involved in that year long project and you even said yourself it is your nature... so in your case it is not your opinion but how poorly you express it that gets you in trouble. Probably why (by your own admission) you have maybe 3 friends.

928 meets Pimp My Ride! Hey, it's your car so good luck on your mods. I'd keep the original equipment you are removing somewhere just in case you ever find that you need to sell it. Careful that you don't turn your 928 into a Honda Civic

I forgot to say - Welcome back to 928 ownership

Thats exactly what I thought.

The seats are the most offensive. They look terrible.

FWIW, If you want nice seats, contact Sparco and get a pair of the seats in the Bentley CGT SS and have someone reupholster them to match your interior in black. Would likely cost a few thousand but then you dont have to live with the shame that goes along with those hideous seats youve got in there currently.

Seriously, save EVERYTHING, your next buyer is going to want all the original stuff.

Wink

I have stored all stock components in a air conditioned room, with the exception of the carpet which was discarded. Won't the OEM seats, etc, I am storing, be in even better condition under said condition if not being used ? I can easily put this car back to original if I so choose. I can also easily transfer the entire aftermarket sound sound system, seats, etc, to my next car, which I have done in the past. I wish my finacial advisor cared about my dollars half as much as some. Again, the stock seats make my head hit the headliner, I personally do not like leather seats, and I now can fit into my car without my hair (whats left of it) brushing against the headliner. I also e-mailed Sparco twice requestion more info on their products and they have not gotten back to me. Guess they do not need my business. T
