The only other car I would care about is the NA 944 5 spd.
Wouldn't matter what year.
Have an 83 auto in the driveway, and an 87 auto box under the porch, but can't bring myself to fix it.

Uh...no they dont. You MAY be talking about transfer cases IF they leak, Im aware of that issue..but _not_ that massive lump of antimatter, called the transmission.
I thought you had to be mistaken there for a moment...can I send the guys on the team3s your Email address on how to get free AWD transmissions?
And 70k isnt bad, but your synchro's -are- in their golden years right now, enjoy them.

transfer case, sorry. trans doesn't f up unless you f em up. yes their syncro's r common screw ups, but thats something with mitsu cause evo's do it as well.
seems like you know everything bout the platform though yet own a 928, whereas i own a a 3S and have worked on em.

We had an '06 Infiniti G35 coupe 6 speed and, although it's a gorgeous car, we hated it. Sold it after 3 years and got an '08 R32... much better, more personality, more refined.

Yes, like I said, tween wife and I, weve had about 5 3S vehicles. Enjoyed them back in the day. Had fun HPDE'in them, but in the end..theyre just too damned heavy to do sporty things with. The consumables and wear & tear with that much mass to manage, wasnt worth it.

understandable, but since 2005 the aftermarket has really come alive. there's vr4's weighing in at 2900lbs awd still in it. i'm happy with mine at its wieght, but i want luxury right now. i could drop nearly 200lbs with only simple pulling of parts and 2 new seats. drop the wieght of em by just 150 and add 20-30hp and you'll b playing with c5 corvettes. up the front brakes to slotted/vented and let the track days beserious. o and delete the 4ws, idk what possesed mitsu, but it's the worst thing ever on a track.
100k, seems easy, i know of a lot of em that have over 100k on em, people just don't spend the money on basic things to get em there. only need the 60k tune up and regular maintenance.
op: i'd almost say if you want soul, go european.

$15K? Well, I tested out a 350Z..nice brickyard red..found the interior more cramped than the 928 and the performance not all that impressive- handled nicely but not to compelling from a standing start. That cash could land a decent '05 or '06 LS2 GTO...400 HP out of the box and nicely responsive to a bit of tuning to lean out the mixture and a set of headers..or a magnusson blower...Not great on the styling front but a heavy dose of power and good aftermarket support and a solid powerplant....but you have to weigh out style points in terms or recent vs. classic or retro, performance vs. curb appeal, boy racer vs. brawler, etc.

Not a break just a brief history lesson.
The 1980's had four production supercars --928--- Testarossa-- Espirit--- Countach
Of the supercars the 928 was by far the best built/engineered and most luxurious. It was also faster than the espirit and Countach. Show me one of the others that has 200K miles and still daily drives! The 928 held a land speed record.

page 112-117 +170 and following
and this was the 4,5L Version. The S would have destroyed it. The Countach is not as fast as it looks and getting out performance kills the driver

Well, you're pointing to a 1981 article, I was referring to the contest between the 1987 models. By that date, the Countach 5000S had turned to QV "Quattrovalvole" just like the 928 S4, and I believe that ol' Ferruccio's sexiest daughter was actually the "fastest of them all" in the late 1980s.

Yes and a ferrari enzo is faster than a carrera gt. Does this make the gt less supercar?
The 928 was the non plus ultra of high performance driving while still capable for the daily business.
(Good old times when not every Nissan ment to play with the big boys.)

Hey man, I'm the last person to dis' the 928. I was just taking issue with Porsche's "fastest car" claims about the S4. Fastest reasonable and livable and obtainable car, sure. But not quite the fastest "production car" according to what that often means.

For reference, the owner of the Z06 is a regular on this forum and he has 3 928's. He can probably elaborate more than I on the differences.

What it means is that it was the fastest automatic car in 1987 for that time.I don't think you will find a faster production auto car back in 1987.All the cars you mention weren't automatics and the claim is that back in 1987 it was the fastest automatic trans car.
