I found one of those early vents. Too bad it is incomplete. I am not giving up hope that the parts are not in some weird box in my sheds.....

What is missing on the vent? The hole can be repaired easily enough so it will not be noticable.

Three of the L/R flaps are missing on one of them, including the center one. The other one is complete.

Michael,
Thank you very much!
I bet 928 Intl will have some spare bits.
...and since mine has the ****, I'll try swapping out the louvers.

I found some armrest louvers, but they were heavily warped, missing slats, and $80 for the set of 4.
I bet these will be the hardest to find, esp since Michael made it so easy for me with the center vent. Thanks again!

FWIW everyone, post 3 here contains a list of parts I'm on the hunt for. Looking for a bunch a new/NOS items. PM me if you have something you'd like to part with, which may be of interest to me.

Can you replace the faceplate of the speedo instead of the whole thing? Would it be accurate? If so, I have a KPH in my 79 I would love to replace with a MPH, and this would keep the miles accurate.

Yes, you can replace the face, which is the direction I'm headed.
Unfortunately, a '78 speedo only works for '78 cause it's cable driven (?).

Will be sending a '78 MPH speedo to Palo Alto Speedo to install the KPH face (see below), convert gearing, and calibrate.
This will include an odometer adjustment from 102762 miles to 165379 kilometers.

Tim, you can also have a few mph mile post amounts silk screened on your speedo. I did not think of that but another GTS importing guy did about 2 or 3 years after I imported mine and that is what he had done. He had them put like 25, 50, 75, etc... on his speedo in a nice gray color so it did not stand out to much but was easy to see and gave you a good idea of just how fast you were going instead of just guessing... I should have done that too on my '92! I just have a Garmin Nuvi in there now so it always tells me EXACTLY how fast I am going and usually what the speed limit on that road is too! NICE!

Jim,
I wanted to thank and everyone else on this thread, I just recently noticed it and had to read the entire thing, it has answered several of my question and solved a few problems encounted trying to repair/rehab mine. I bought mine 2 years ago, probably should have let it go to the junk yard but the vin and a really cheap price convinced it needed to be saved and I need another project at the time, maybe not this big. Only thing really suprising so far is the mention of the cable speedometer, didn't find that in mine.
