Default Parts list for repaint anyone?

Has anyone put together a complete parts list for exterior repaints? A list of all the items needed when removing and replacing glass, trim, lights, spoilers, etc.

Do any of the 928 parts vendors offer a package of all these pieces?

I suspect it will contain the following; feel free to add:

- Porsche Hood Crest
- Bumper beading front and rear
- Windshield washer nozzles
- Headlight washer nozzles
- Door window trim corners (are the other pieces required also?)
- Door window seals
- Door seals
- Rear quarter window seals, and possibly trim
- What's needed for the hatch window?
- Hatch seal
- What's needed for all the locks?
- Teflon stickers for hatch
- On s4 and later models - Teflon strips between spoiler and hatch
- ... what else?

FWIW, if anybody does have any insight into the above question, I would also be interested to know.

Side molding clips, side marker light seals ,window trim corner pieces are required(they break on removal) you can reuse the rest of the window trim. Window outer and upper seals are required inner ones are not , quarter glass seal and trim (plastic) are required (quarter glass corner pieces can be reused if you are careful removing them they are metal). Door and hatch seals can be reused if in good shape. Door threshold clips and all front spoiler fasteners are a good idea. Side mirror seals, door lock seals, rear hatch lock seal and rear wiper pivot seals X2. Hatch window trim can be removed carefully and should not require replacing the same goes for the front window trim ,the hatch window itself is glued onto the hatch . The rest of what you mentioned Nicole is accurate

Regards Dan 1990 928Gt

p.s. if you plan to replace all window, door, quarter glass and rear hatch seals plan on $1600.00USD (just for the seals no joke!)

928 564 259 02 1 Sunroof Front Gasket
928 564 261 02 1 Sunroof Rear Gasket

Since I am replacing the glass, the front headlights and fog light lenses are in a good list for renewing... so i suggest renewing due to glass chipping (20 years of service)

2 Headlights
2 Fog Lenses

That should be it for the exterior rennovation, unless you are missing lower spoilers so i would also suggest placing a new front, middle and back lower spoilers.

As far as the window and glass trim as well as wipers, they can be mostly reused and repainted (save around $1800 on those).

I would also suggest refinishing your wheels while the car is in the shop.

Sincerely,
Khaled Badr

Agreed Brain, I have all the numbers in a folder and am not sure I want to go back and scrutinize the cost, door sill trim is a good one, those are broken as soon as you remove them and $40+ each.

Khaled:

Thank you very much for this comprehensive list! I will keep this for when the day comes.

Now the only thing that would be interesting are the prices for these parts...

Questions:

1. How were the door sills handled - were the doors taken off and the sills repainted, or was the new paint blended in in the crease?

2. If the door sills had been painted completely, did you have to replace the DOT and paint color stickers? Are these available in the original look?

Thanks!

Nicole suffice it to say that if you repaint your car, there is a 99% chance that it won't be as nice as it is today. Your car is flawless. Leave it alone.

The doors should be removed to "trim" the paint, and then remasked and reinstalled for the final paint job. The doors were off for my body work and primer stages.

Nicole
Did the classic grey 928 get assaulted by a conspriacy of mutant pebbles? It seems as fast as I touch up rock chips on mine more appear....personally I think its like a union...you take one out and the union sends another one to take its place!

In most cases there is no need to "dissasemble" the whole car to repaint.....on the 928 removing both bumper cover should be a must....only because painting the rubber/plastic trim between the body and the covers looks stupid.....
Any "good" body shop can mask the rest of it off, sand it, prep it and paint it.......and no one will be the wiser.
paying them a little more to take extra time in the masking and sanding will pay off in the long run.
A full off frame (down the the shell(928)) is so not needed for a normal respray unless the body is totally wasted.....just find a good body shop......even Macco can do a good job if your not cheap....
In my opinion for less than a thousand bucks ( including warrenty) you can get a job done and no will ever know......
Take a real-real close look at new cars....their paint is not that good...really....even a new Porsche....the factory never makes it perfect...if you look really look you can see dips and the blemishes on most any paint job.
There a big differance between repainting vs restoring.....if you want to restore it say good bye to it for a long long long time...oh and bring lots of money
