Put your car on a trailer and pull it to the track with a Surburban. Safer still.
Or maybe don't drive. Safest!
The fact is that speed limits in the country are set arbitraily, and are set to the lowest common denominator - The Geo Metro. They basically get a high school kid to drive a stretch of road as fast as he can in his 15 year old Geo Metro. If he survives without a crash, that's the speed limit.
It's rediculous.
The vast majority of police issuing speeding tickets are not doing it for "safety's sake." Instead it is a thinly veiled revenue generator. Same for red-light cameras, and speed-cameras. The municipalities say it's for safety, but it's not. It purely a revenue generator. The cities don't even have to pay for them. THey contract with a company for x-months to install them at a certain location and the city gets a check ever month. How is that in the interest of safety?
Because of this increased police-state type environment disguised as a means to to protect us, I choose to run a radar detector and laser jammer to avoid paying these unlevied taxes.

For the most part tickets are issued as a tax and in some cases collected by armed tax collectors under threat of inprisonment.

If you wanna call it a tax, fine..but it's one you contractually agreed to pay too.
"Wanna license? Cool, read this, sign here..now, get caught, pay the ticket, we cool?"
Beyond that, protect yourself at all costs from paying it.

You can argue all day long if speed limits are fair or not, but "chain is as good as its weakest link" - by keeping limits at the level of the weakest link, you make it safe for everyone on the road. Majority of the drivers neither have enough skills nor their cars are not good/safe enough for high speed.
In the end, I'm not saying you should stay within limits - it is your decision. I just find it hard to justify $$$$ price tag. Maybe I'm just a more careful driver then you are

The mentality of "As long as I do the speed limit I'm safe" actually makes the roads more dangerous. It fills our highways with people reading books, putting on makeup, watching tv, texting etc...... But they are all "safe" because they are only traveling at 65mph.
Yes I agree 100% "our drivers" in the USA lack many skills, including those necessary to travel at autobahn speeds. The problem is, these lack of skills are also needed to safely pilot an SUV at 65mph.
Yes I know this is all a moot point arguing about the revenue generating system that is our national speed limit.
I'm really excited about these new "auto" cruse control systems that allow a driver of a 4,500lb vehicle to pay even less attention to what's going on.
Just please, do not try to convince me speed limits have anything to do with safety. Just like seat belt laws.......if it was really about safety, school buses would have one for every child

CA uses alot more pacing than other states, so awareness is extremely important. Younger cops will use pacing and lie about what speed you were doing, and if you go to court, you can beat it by simply diagrams, like RonH uses.
I have a V1. I should check the firmware. It goes off constantly, which is expected in an urban environment. But it gets irritating when it goes off in the middle of Arizona for NO reason.
I got a ticket in Texas with the V1 on - over a hill. Obviously each state uses the technology and force differently. Awareness helps much more here than in other places.

I had 3.5 saves on my trip to Texas.
The 1/2 was not really a save as I was going under the limit when he lit me up with a laser, but I am sure he got no speed reading.
I found a lot of the Police in TX and MS were using CO (constant on) as opposed to the IO (instant on) they seem to love here.
It has paid for itself many times.

I got lasered coming out of the parking lot of the hotel in Marble Falls. Got on it pretty good then held at the speed limit, 9500i showed he taggede me at 46 in a 45. I imagine he heard the x-pipe growl and figured I was easy pickens...no such luck for the local Marble Falls constabulary... the laser sound notification will startle the hell out of you though.
