I think you're too generous. Lets agree that this could be a great driver but the reality is that if the owners have skimped on maintaining the cosmetics and have used the least expensive methods to try to cover what was either major bodywork, really bad cosmetics or both. You have to start thinking that the mechanicals were also poorly maintained considering the cosmetics. Combine this with the lack of maintenance history and I think the current bid is crazy. This is my opinion of course but I think a less generous opinion needs to be conveyed so a potential new owner doesn't get duped into spending too much and then spending considerably more to get everything up to date (even if the cosmetics are acceptable to them).

Gosh ya'll seem a little ****!

That car was painted that way with full intention of it being a 20 footer. Assuming there's no frame damage and the car runs and drives ok 5K seems completely reasonable to me. It's an 86/5 S with a stick shift.....

If you don't like his paint job either don't buy it, or don't whine about re-doing the whole thing yourself! Owning an old sports car is a labor of love. Period.

Seems kind of mean to blast his sale on here. It's an ebay bid - and the price really isn't that unreasonable - he's not hiding anything in the photographs either :P.

Where did you get 5? It was 12.5 when offered to John. Lot of red flags for a 928 enthusiast on this one. Period.

This car is NOT being sold by the same person I was looking at buying the car from. He sold it to this dealership. The dealership in turn is asking 10K in their autotrader ad.

I purchased my '85 a month later, with only 65K on the clock, with a mostly intact interior and an absolutely complete service history for $8600.

IF this car was selling for $6k, it would probably be an ok price. But I doubt that's the case. My guess is the dealer bought it for >$7k, and probably won't part with it for less than $9k.

Now don't get me wrong... I wouldn't pay more than about $5k for this car. The body and paint are only part of the story, of course. The base example, however... is an early 4 valve 5 speed. What's a few parts among all us nuts? Drop another 2k into it and it's a beast again.

Welcome to the asylum... we should start a support group in the area. I've got a pair, a buddy nearby has an S4 I wrench on, quite a few of us scattered around the bay. Good luck with the new beast.

Most 20-footers are only worth a grand or two in my experience.

I'm not usually known for being picky, but I would not take it for free. Not that this is the right thing, but that's how I feel. Funny story though. My dad once had a wild date who barfed all over the side of his car. Next day he was having it painted at Earl Shreib so, since he was expecting they would prep it, he did not bother to clean it up. Turns out they painted right over the barf. Same deal here.
